Your problem could be with the 3G/4G handoff on the Epic. It seems, that when the Epic shifts from 3G data to 4G, data connection cycles on/off. Basically, it seems the phone goes from 3G connected->no connection->4G connected. So if you are loading a website with 3G, and turn on 4G while loading the website, the site will not load because the a split second you have no internet connection. You best bet when trying to load sites and apps that use data connections is to use same connection that you started with. For example, if you open the facebook app when you have 3G connection and switch to 4G while the app is loading the site, you are probably going to have problems. If you connect to 4G first, then load the Facebook site/app you should be fine.

If this isn't your problem, could you check the speedtest.net app and check your speeds on both 3G and 4G.

Hope this helps.

Same thing when switching from cellular networks (3G/4G) to Wifi and vice versa.

I also think some apps dont see the 4G connection as a type of Data source.
I have noticed a couple of apps will not use 4G at all. No matter what. I also have noticed an app or two that deal with counting data. (apps that tell you how much data is used on 3G, WiFi, tethering) I have seen them not count any Data when i am using a 4G connection. So my guess is that when 4G is enabled the device has a set protocol to tell the apps to get its data from there. But some apps just dont see that.
Thats just an observation on my part.
