4g data plan price confusion...verizon store told me 49.99/mo

When I was buying my Tbolt this morning the sales guy informed me that I would have to buy a 4g unlimited data plan at the price of 49.99/mo. After some discussion (and he even pulled out some pre-printed sheet with the 49.99 pricing listed) he said I could just keep a '3G' data plan such as the one I already had on my previous phone for 29.99/mo. But that it would only work for 3G. Now, we live in Grand Rapids where we don't have 4G available yet. So I said fine, let me keep the 29.99 unlimited 3G plan and think about this other pricing later.

So after looking online some about the matter, I find some references to a 49.99 plan for non contracted individuals, and the rest of the references are to the 29.99 unlimited 4G plan. (I do have a 2 year contract with VZW, and I always have).

So I called Verizon 800 number and she didn't have any info on any new pricing and that my current 29.99 plan DOES include 4G. And the verizon website detailing my account also says "4G data, 4G internet" under the features section. But the thing is I can't test out the phone on 4G since we don't have it. So I don't know if in fact the phone would work on 4G or not. Based on the sales guy at the store, I wouldn't....based on my phone conversation with the Verizon 800 number, I would.

Anyone else been told anything similarly? What should I do, if anything? Should I call my local VZW store and ask for another explanation or should I just let it go? I was hoping to possibly grandfather into the 4G unlimited data plan so I don't want this to be messed up based on a mistake made at my local store.

I did watch the sales guy put in the 4G sim card......I have no reason to believe
based on anything I've seen online that I need a 49.99 plan to have 4G.....anyone???

Yes... it should be for data only. Hit or miss at retail store_in my experience the stores are staffed with idiots.

I saw on Verizon website there were 2 options
1 - $49.99 corp email unlimited
2. $29.99 personal email & data

I don't get why they call it a corporate plan, you can still get exchange email with the personal plan.

If you buy the Thunderbolt and don't sign a contract (month-to-month) then any kind of data plan, 4G, 3G, on the Thunderbolt is $49/mo. If you signed a contract agreement and got the phone at 1 or 2 yr contract price, then the Store Rep. is an idiot and you should be capable of 4G and 3G data at $29/mo.

There are the plans:

3G/4G Data Package (w/ separate voice plan)
$29.99 - Unlimited 3G/4G Email & Web
$44.99 - Corporate (Business User) 3G/4G Email & Web

Data-Only for Smartphones
$49.99 - 4G Email & Web (5GB Cap)

You should have gotten the first plan if you are using Verizon's voice services.

yes I also have an individual voice plan at 39.99/mo
when I activated an old BB last sept I had to add the 29.99 data plan as well.

So I do have both voice and data plan. And I do have a 2 yr contract.
