4G Hotspot does not stay connected to 4G disconnects all the time

Anyone else seeing an issue where 4G is fine and can stream YouTube but once you open up the 4G hotspot and connect a laptop to it the 4G comes in and out. The laptop stays connected but it just loses the 4G connection and comes back every few seconds and is unusable. Any ideas on how to fix this or is it a known issue and they are working on it.

I am using on a MacBook Pro 2010 if that makes a difference. I tired on an iPad and it seems a bit more stable so not sure if it is MacBook related. Tried a Windows laptop and it also seems more stable. Dual boot from my MacBook this morning to XP and got the same issue.

I'm having the same problem with my 2011 Macbook Pro and mobile hotspot continuously disconnecting/resetting. I can't even make it through a speedtest on the computer without losing all mobile data and having it come back on moments later. 4G on the phone works fine...

I'm having this problem just today for the first time. It must be network related because it hasn't happen for the last 7 days. It only seems to happen while using the hotspot. The 4G keeps disappearing and then reappearing, and the hotspot keeps reporting one user is connected over and over again.

Me too...and on another forum a number of folks are seeing it. They are quoting VZW Tech Support as saying it is a known 4G issue and they are working it...but, I have to say that its frequency of occurence varies widely. I have tried both USB and Wireless tethering and get the same results...well actually, I never got the USB to work properly so...funny though I am using a 2010 MB Pro as well.

Can it be mainly a MB Pro issue? Last night I tried a Windows netbook and an iPad and it seem to work pretty well unless it is really sporatic and it is just luck when I use the MB Pro. I will have to try the iPad later to see if it happens today.

I wonder if this is one of the reasons we have "free mobile hotspot" until May 15th so they can work through these issues?

Maybe you are in a weak 4G area? Mine is great I don't think its ever dropped a connection I have 4G 90% of the time. I use an HP laptop with Win 7.

2010 MBP here, same issues. WiFi hotspot is on/off, I'll get 1-2mb download for 5 minutes then constant disconnections.

Also couldn't get USB to tether, I've read PDAnet might do the trick but haven't tried it

Edit: I have a steady 2-4 bars of 4g signal

I just tried again and the 4G hotspot cuts in and out on my MB Pro. I then tested with an iPad and it does the same thing. It is unusable. I am in the middle of a 4G area and get full bars. When I turn off the hotspot I can stream YouTube just fine and it never cuts in and out.

Easytether has been working as a USB solution for 2010 MBP. Did have to restart once but more reliable than mobile hotspot for now.

Anybody been able to get this to work or find a work around? My 4G network connection is solid anytime on the phone when I'm not using wireless tether. It's only using wireless tether that it drops out.

i had this issue when i was away this weekend but it was with 3g...im on a MBP too....could that be issue?

Ok, I'm back to having a solid hotspot connection today for the last 6 hours here in Los Angeles. The only change I made was to turn off data roaming. It's possible that Verizon made some network changes as well, but it's also possible that this new stability is temporary. I guess we'll see.

I've had the same problem since I picked up the phone upon release across three different devices... my PC, Ipad 2, and a Xoom.

Connecting to the hotspot while 4G is active intermittently causes the data connection (but not the bars associated with the voice network) to drop. It'll sometimes back after a few seconds, other times requires toggling mobile data, entering and exiting airplane mode, or even rebooting the phone itself.

Using youtube on any device tethered to the bolt via hotspot and jumping around at random to various points in a video seems to accelerate the process... I can get the data to drop within a few seconds on the ipad and xoom and within a minute on a PC.

I'm having a similiar problem. Trying to tether my zoom to my thunderbolt and it will connect and work for a couple minutes then lose the connection. Other times it will just keep connecting and disconnecting from the tbolt. Same thing happens weather I use the mobile hotspot app or wireless tether (I'm rooted).

I'm guessing this is why its free till May.
