4G Roll Out

I'm not happy the date slipped, but am also "pro business" and realize this stuff happens, especially with technology.

I travel regularly, but still find the vast majority of my data comes WiFi. So much that the 1GB plan with Verizon is more than I need. When connected to 3G, the service is great for everything shy of streaming video.

So I'm having trouble wrapping my brain around a conservative independent businessman wanting to crucify another business for a simple date slip whose impact is minimal to zero on the general operation of the device.

Maybe you had a minor screw up in your own business and a customer over reacted and took you to the cleaners? Just a guess. :-)
It's simple. They misrepresented.

It bothers me how much Motorola has screwed this one up. At least in my opinion.
It's a lose-lose for Motorola. Working in a major hw/sw company, I've seen situations where stuff has been going really well, hit QA, an is issue found at the last minute, they have to put the brakes on things. The management team weighs releasing and fixing later versus holding it to recoup R&D costs, and you have some pissed off customers in either case. If they find a hardware problem and released a news bulletin stating "The LTE upgrade is delayed due to having hardware problems that we are resolving", by the time it hits the media (or forums/word of mouth ) it's "Xoom has hardware problems", thus loss in revenue as no one buys them. If they don't say anything, they get the sales, but then have the early adopters annoyed. As much as I'd really like SD / 4G, it's not the end of the world and it will arrive at some point and we'll all have something else to be wishing for :)

*** PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON'T START A FLAME WAR ON THIS ***
I really hope things don't end up in a law suit just because they are late. Why? Because their lawyers can play games and still end up winning even if they lost the law suit. A lot of large companies now that lose the class action lawsuits turn around and say "Fine we lose, here's $50 towards a new Xoom 2 with LTE", which ends up below their margins, still making money (minus the upset customers, but they'll be replaced by new customers.) So instead of them spending their money on making good with the customers, they waste money on lawyers, and spite the customers. Then everyone loses (well except the lawyers :))

Now that being said, if Motorola turns around and says "No LTE for you, sorry" after all this waiting. (Though I would hope VZW step in as well to try to soften things.) Then I could see value in a class action, but again I guarantee no one will profit from this accept lawyers. They may see a dip in sales, but if the rest of the products are solid, no one will remember in a couple years when the new techie-toys are out. This happens all the time... "Hard drive will randomly die due to faulty part" and three years later you get a $10 discount towards a replacement drive.

I got my Xoom on Day one from Verizon. This has been a great device for me.

I too wish it had the 4G and SD Card, but it is still a great device without them. If I never see SD or 4G it will make me think twice about motorola again.

It isn't a bad device. But, I have been told things by both VZW and Motorola and simply put neither have happened. VZW told me we'd receive our upgrade in 4 to 6 weeks (I purchased the first week it was out). Motorola several weeks back told me the upgrade would take place in the 2nd quarter of this year. The 2nd quarter has come and gone.

Motorola seems to be completely incompetent in dealing with 4G LTE.

I will be buying the new Asus tablet in October with Tegra 3.Most likely it will be built better as well..Motorola just losing customers over this..no one will buy a Xoom 2 when it comes out..I know I'm not getting burned again.!

I agree that this is bad for Moto to be so wrong about their product. But so far the lack of SD Card or 4G hasn't affected my use of it. Granted I have only had the Xoom for 5 months now and this time next year when everyone else is sporting 4G I will be angry.

In the end I agree it makes me think twice about getting another Moto product. At the time it was the best Android Tablet out there, now there are ones about as good for much less.

To be honest these new plans are so broken. This is a step in the wrong direction for innovation, why not offer throttling like T-Mobile does? And offer plans that throttle after a specific amount of data downloaded is hit. For instance, T-Mobile has a cap of 5 gigs until they throttle. In the end, this will also hurt the tablet takeover.

I know some of you HATE when I do this, but please read this link and pay attention to the date of the press release and when Motorola says the LTE will be available. It is contractual as it is an inducement to buy. If in fact my Xoom is not upgraded by end of this month I will have to ask for a full refund. If it is not granted I will be forced to pursue legal action. I have never sued anyone in my entire life. It is not what I want but they are forcing me to do this.

What was the outcome and what should we expect from them? I bought mine through best buy with warranties and all. Plus accesories. It seems like more of a hassle not to mention even without my 'upgrades' I still enjoy my xoom.

Although I will say that without the 4g upgrade, all I really have right now is an overpriced wifi version. :(

I'm willing to wait. I've had the Xoom since April, runs great on Wifi and 3G, and both my wife and I are happy with it. So I don't get high speed 4G, but the 3G works *great*, so I look at it as a nice speed boost a bit later :) As for the SD card, I still haven't come close to filling this thing, so not too excited about that either.

BTW if the original statements by VZW/Motorola that the Bionic and Xoom LTE upgrade will be released at the same time are true, then all the rumors seem to be lining up. The Bionic hit the FCC with a rumored 7/28 release date (based on past FCC submission timings with other phones with VZW), which would put an upgrade a few weeks out. This isn't too far off from the VZW comments to people on the forum saying "very soon" and "just a couple more weeks".

Personally I'm dreading the 5 day wait to be without my Xoom worse than waiting for the upgrade to be available...

Motorola hasn't been able to produce a single 4G LTE product yet, while at least three other competitors have.

In my opinion, they shouldn't have released the Xoom as a product that would be a 4G LTE product. They should have done with it what they ended up doing with the Droid X2. Simply released it as a tablet with a dual core processor and sporting Honeycomb. Instead they still to this day (even at VZW's site claim that it will have 4G LTE.)

Motorola told me our upgrades would take place in the second quarter of this year. That didn't happen.

Please no class action. You will get a free accessory at best 2 years from now. Each individual person should write a clear, concise, and rational letter of frustration demanding either your money back or a free 1 for 1 swap of the new Xoom. Here is the fax number: 847-523-0727. I did this yesterday. This is the fax # for Motorola legal
