4G to 1X to no service. On Verizon

Same signal issues, just moved to a new workplace and the phone is unusable. Odin back to MJE helped a bit but calls and messages (forget about data) go through maybe 5% of the time. On my Note 2 I used to be able to send texts on 1 bar of 1X, not possible on the Note 3.

The sad thing is my colleagues who have any non-Samsung phone get LTE or working 3G in the same area. Going to try for an M8 or if that doesn't work a 5S as all 5 of those around me have 1 bar LTE.

I am running the note 3, S5, and gnp12.2. All of which are getting horrible service. I can see the tower. Get full service outside. Go inside and the new xlte drops our to 1 bar or no service. Calling verizon today to drop service on gnp12.2 and another tablet since there is no to little signal to work with.

Xlte uses the 2.1GHz frequency range. That frequency is poor for getting into biildings....whereas the original lte service is in the 700MHz band and far better at inside coverage.

Well at least I don't feel quite so alone any longer. Note 3 stock on Verizon with KK. I'm greeted with this almost two dozen times per day. Note my signal strength indicator. And the "Safe Mode" icon. I've tried everything...on my third phone now.

If you have not done so, clear cache in recovery and also pull the sim. If that doesn't work do a factory data reset. If it still happens, I would call Verizon for support. They should help you resolve it. Probably would send you another sim or another device

Cleared cache, factory reset phones multiple times....and they've replaced SIM and phone 3 times now. Still having issues.

Then it is probably a tower issue. Do you have problems on other towers?

Problems all over city in my home town, problems in other cities (I travel weekly). This all started with Kit Kat upgrade. I've seen a post over on another forum about downgrading my baseband back to MJE. I'm currently on NC4. Apparently, everyone else experiencing this problem has found it resolved when reverting back to earlier baseband. I'm going to have to give that a try. This isn't a tower problem...its a network/modem-radio firmware issue. Verizon keeps pointing their finger at Samsung saying they are aware of the issue affecting some customers in some markets. I don't know enough to say if its related to the XLTE frequency or not.

I just want a reliable phone again. This has been dropping calls 20-25 times per day since the Kit Kat update.

Sorry to hear it. My data is solid on KitKat. Didn't drop to 3g or 1x unless in a weak signal area

Followed the link provided earlier. Downloaded Odin 3, reverted my modem/radio firmware back to MJE.

I _INSTANTLY_ shot up to 5 bars where I'd be in 1X or 3G signal, same as I had PRIOR to upgrade to Kit Kat. Clearly there's something going on in Verizon's update with certain tower configurations and the Note 3 radio.

A month of dropped calls...man I don't know what it feels like to have solid connection again. For anyone else struggling with this....downgrade your radio firmware. Doesn't have anything to do with your ROM. Maybe Verizon will release an update eventually to resolve this.

I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the XLTE rollout?

Glad it worked out for you

Out of curiosity...you said your DATA is solid on KitKat. I never really had data issues on NC4. As can be seen by the image I posted, I'd still have 3-4 bars 4G signal and data would work just fine. It was voice that didn't work. That tends to indicate something in the radio and/or tower is messed up. Voice was my issue...dropped calls, calls straight to VM without ringing, etc. Moving back to MJE solved my issue.

Hows your voice quality on KitKat, particularly while mobile (in a car, etc)?

No dropped calls. Call quality isn't great, sometimes I can't hear the other party for a second. I don't make calls when on the car. I don't call much so it doesn't affect me too much

Interesting. For the record, my issue after KK upgrade was primarily voice. Often times when I hear people complain about radio strength its hard to discern if they are talking about data speeds, voice quality or both. For me, I was having both issues, but the constant dropped calls and inability to even send a text, even though my phone was showing 4G signal, was unbearable.

Maybe the next radio update will address this.

I have THE EXACT identical signal issues posted above. Tried everything too. Verizon sending me a new phone on Monday. Wish I saw this first but if new phone has same issues we finally have a fix.

Also, Runamuck... Did u happen to see if the issue we share is a Verizon only issue ie if it's not happening on other carriers on kit Kat then it must be XLTE related and hence a Verizon issue.

In Arkansas/Missouri lots of dropped calls lately. In Florida ....many times cannot get enough signal to send a text! No root....no kk... hopefully soon no Verizon!

Glad I found this thread. I'm going to flash the radio back asap. Is mje the radio I had with 4.2? Also does anybody think it will help the gps issue as well?

Riddle me this. I ordered the replacement phone and replacement Sim card and then learned about the MJE possible fix. Since I had a day to wait, I flashed MJE and I'll be damned it worked! Great signal, back to how it was. My replacement came today and I did not flash MJE (yet). However, while it's still only been a few hours, the replacement phone signal is fantastic and just like MJE. I don't get it.
