Hello,

Before I switched over to the Note 8, my other phone showed 4G+ with my T-mobile in San Francisco.

But I have not noticed 4G+ on my Note 8 and I was wondering if anyone using T-mobile in California ever shows 4G+.

What was your other phone? I don't think there's that on Samsung Phones, but might be 4G vs 4G LTE (I kinda remember seeing just 4G at some point, but it's usually 3G and 4G LTE that I can truly recall).

my other phone was Xiaomi Mi Note 2. I know for sure I saw 4G+ on that phone before. Given the Note8 is capable of LTE advanced, so I would expect to see 4G+.

if you check the specs here
https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_note8-8505.php

it shows it supports LTE-A (which stands for advanced)

4G bands LTE band 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 12(700), 13(700), 17(700), 18(800), 19(800), 20(800), 25(1900), 26(850), 28(700), 32(1500), 38(2600), 39(1900), 40(2300), 41(2500), 66(1700/2100)
Speed HSPA 42.2/5.76 Mbps, LTE-A (5CA) Cat16 1024/150 Mbps

Are you in California with Tmobile as well?

Anyone else in this forum?

my tmobile SIM card also shows LTE+ when i put it in the OnePlus 5T phone. if note8 supports LTE-A (5CA) which is 4G/LTE advance. the signal should show 4G+.

anyone??

What does the badge matter?
More importantly, what's your speed.

Mine only ever says 4G here, but tops out at about 180Meg. More than enough.

It's just how various phones display it. It's still the same LTE connection you were getting before.

People have had the same phone and put a different ROM on it and saw LTE + instead of LTE. Same phone different software so displayed differently.

oh ok. i did not know different ROM would show different signal for the same phone (i.e. 4G vs 4G+). i always thought the signal is determined by the SIM card

Yeah signal is determined by the proper SIM, signal from the tower, strength, etc. -- The ROM on the phone simply displays what is what.

Example:

Phones in the US say "LTE" for LTE. In other countries they simply just label it "4G" (what we label as 3G/HSPA).

Mine says 4G LTE. T-Mobile in NYC.

Yes, am with T-mobile in CA.

thanks for the screen shot. if i am not seeing '4G+' on my note 8, does it really mean the phone is not capable for advanced 4G signal.

again, like i said before when i use the SAME SIM card in the Oneplus 5t and Xiaomi Mi Note 2, it shows 4G+

correct me if i am wrong, i believe there is a different between 4G and advanced 4G (4G+)

I have the note 8 and using it with T-Mobile in the SF bay area, my phone never shows "4g+". Most of the time it shows as "4GLTE or 4G" depends on the location. when it shows "4G (HSPA+), i would manually turn off the data, and turn it back on so it can connect with 4GLTE.

Here it is usually 3G, H, H+ and 4G
Only very very rarely see 3G. ( 90% its 4G which covers the whole LTE spectrum) As said, for me that's up to about 180Meg with an average of about 60.

Label depends on handset though as its Rom dependant.
