So this morning I see that the 502 ota is knocking on my screen. My orig Nexus 7 has gotten really slow on 4.4.4. I recently did an FDR which helped, but it is still a little laggy.

My question is for all who have applied this update over 4.4.4, and whether it made things better or worse?

I installed the 5.0.2 OTA update and don't really have any complaints. My tablet felt like it was starting to become sluggish on 4.4.4 as well. I haven't done a FDR, but 5.0.2 feels a little more fluid than what 4.4.4 did. I haven't completely ruled out doing a FDR, but for now I'm going to wait.

My daughter, who's 11 installed the 5.0.2 update as well and she says she likes it. So no complaints here.

Installed it the day before yesterday. I have to say I didn't really have any issues before except for light sluggishness.

Since the update though it seems to have gotten ALLOT more slow. Considering a FDR myself but am just wondering if this is what I get on an older tablet.

I only lightly use it so it's hard to justify buying a new, exponentially more expensive tablet.

I have 5.0.1 on a 2013 Nexus 7 and it is great. Maybe look for one of those as a replacement as I still see them available online.

My 2012 model has been relegated to a dock on my nightstand as an alarm clock, remote control, and casting PocketCasts and Netflix. While it works OK after the FDR, if 5.0.2 brings any performance increases, I'm in.

That's not a bad idea, I'll look around. For some reason my 2012 nexus now only charges while powered off too. It started to do this before the update though.

Well, I got the 5.0.2 OTA and it borked my 2012 N7 - wouldn't boot past the spinning blobs. Did a FDR, no luck. Reflashed it with Wugfresh Nexus Root Toolkit and that fixed it.

Mine was laggy with 4.4.4 and apps were randomly crashing, especially when it would wake up, to the point I was using it less. It seems much less laggy and crashy with 5.0.2. Whether that's due to 5.0.2 or the FDR, who knows.

For me, 4.4.4 was very good I got 5.0 which made my N7 2012 almost unusable with lots of lag, freeze and random reboots. Installed ota 5.0.2 and it's working much better again. It will freeze occasionally like while installing app updates, but it did that under 4.4.4 too.

My girlfriend has a 2012 N7 and got the 5.0.2 two days ago. She hasn't had any problems and says it's running faster. I have a 2013 version and have the 5.0.1 OS. The startup is noticeably faster, in that when it opens the launcher is completely loaded and everything is ready to go. I noticed that it seemed to load a bit slower right after the upgrade, but only for a couple of days. Now, it loads quickly and everything runs a bit faster. It'll be interesting to see if the 5.0.2 upgrade changes anything. It's interesting that the 2012 N7 is getting that upgrade before the 2013 N7, because the 2013 versions had the Lollipop OTA pulled by Google after just a week or so. Things that make you go Hmmmmmm!

So I accepted the update this morning, and just for good measure did an FDR immediately after. I also chose to set it up as a new device, rather than allow apps and their backed up data to re-install.

While I have yet to install 'everything' back onto it, I am pleasantly surprised to see, so far, that things are noticeably snappier.
