5.1.1 is out in the wild!

I like to think of it this way ---- the Nexus line is also geared toward developers so in a way if you purchase one you're kind of a beta tester in a small sense. :)

Hey All Nexus 7 (2012) users :
How many thought
our 2012 N7's would last this long ??
.

General comment: Wouldn't it be nice if all this tech had a clear repurposing path, after their life at the cutting edge is past?
I mean, what happens to the best and brightest smartphones, etc. after they are retired from full-bore life? There is still processing value here, beyond scrap or rare metal mining.

So far so good. Of course, I said that after the last three updates!

I use my Nexus 7 as a GPS 😊

Just received the OTA update tonight and so far all I can is wow! My tablet was starting to be slugish before lollipop, but was getting to the point of being unusable. I was actually looking at other tablets (almost bought a Amazon Fire 7"), but haven't found any that totally fit the bill for what I was looking for. So far it's been great. Really hoping this does the trick and I can hold off buying a new one till I find something I really like.

I received the OTA yesterday. I've been trying to install this morning. I tap the install and it counts down to rebooting now and then just sits there and goes to sleep. I've tried going through the settings and check for updates menu with the same results. Any sugestions?

Thanks

No expert here but my update also took a looong time with some odd pauses of dead air. I just let it ride and did a couple of restarts, I think. At this point I am very brave with the unit..!

CapeCod Ken? So, you must on the sandbar, as I am?

I had the update pop up a couple of nights ago was scared to update seeing as lollipop has virtually broke my tablet. Will try it now with the positive posts here.

I was born and raised there. I'm living in the western part of the state now.
Mine just hangs at the Rebooting Now.... It never reboots.

After a couple months of use, I can call the 5.1.1 update, for me, has been a moderate success. I find after booting, taking it off the charger or just waking it up after some inactivity, the tablet is so slow as to be unusable. But if I let it settle for a few minutes (I'm talking a good five minutes), then it operates like a year old smart phone: mostly smooth with the odd hiccups.

I just have to remember to be patient with the little guy!

Well, it IS only 2015 after all. Give yer head a shake. Why SHOULDN'T we be getting updates for a product that is ONLY THREE years old???

Lots of products have WARRANTIES that last three years, never mind expecting updates.

Also, it would be nice if the update came with a WARNING: "Your product will retain more of its current processing speed if you stick with the OS you NOW have installed. THINK before installing."

Bigger (as in the number of the OS) is not better.

I can't even get 5.1.1 to install...(on my 2012) and in retrospect, I woulda/shoulda/coulda stayed with 4.2

Exactly, Ken. Why do they send us this crap if it won't even install?

A nice little WARNING.......or a BIG fu**er would be good!

Patience be damned; is this a modern, usable device or not?

btw, you didn't say whether you loaded this onto a 2012 or a 2013. ?
