While recording a video today I noticed that the max time I could record was set at 5 minutes. I was not in the text app and recording a video as of I were going to send it, but rather the normal camera mode. Is this the default? If so, can it be changed? I looked in settings and could not seem to find anywhere to change it.

Thank you

It probably has to do more with the storage that would be needed for anything longer than that, given that this is HD. Could you go longer, maybe if it was going to an SD card, but it makes sense to me that it would be limited regardless.

I think it's a limitation to stop things overheating, though i suppose it could equally be the 32bit thing (2 to power of 32 = 4GB). Do you get more time at 1080?

I have a 32g Class 10 sd card in it. I can't recall any of my previous phones having a time limit on recorded video length.

Yes, but were your previous phones HD/4K? Honestly, I have never taken a phone video longer than 2 minutes. 32G is nothing, in terms of a 5 minute HD/4K video. The 4K on this phone is 3840X2160. That's big. 4 times the pixels of 1080P. Just found an article; 4k, aprox. 2 GB per minute.

As I said, I read it in an article. I have no clue what the compression is, as I previously stated. Be that as it may, There is a reason the 5 minute video limit exist. Maybe it's storage and heat. Who knows, but really, if people need more than 5 minutes, then they should buy a video recorder. This is a phone.

That's weird, I didn't even look at time limit. I was at an Annihilator concert on November and took a 8 minute video?? No problem, without looking at settings.

Was it 4k or at a lower resolution? Also, did you use the default camera app or something different?

Camera app -> Settings (the gear icon) -> the next-to-last icon on the second row (should be a box with the current picture resolution setting) -> the second row of that drop down. UHD = 4k, FHD = 1080p.

I own a galaxy note 5 and use the video function quite often. There is a 5 minute limit on Ultra High Definition Recording, so I usually set the video size at FHD (1920x1080). There is no limit to that setting except for battery life and storage availability. Quality is a touch lower the the UHD (3840x2160) but you probably wouldn't notice the difference unless you were viewing both images side by side. To reach settings go to the camera app and look for the little gear in the upper left hand part of the screen. Press on that and the first item on the menu is Video size (rear). Press on that and you will see 6 options. Feel free to experiment taking pictures at each setting.
