I read on the Samsung site that the Note 3 will have 50 GB of Dropbox storage for 2 years. Does anyone know if you'll have to start paying for the 50 GB after the 2 years?? Or will all the stuff you've saved get deleted after the 2 years?? I'm guessing you would just pay for the extra storage. Anyone know??

It's most likely the same way as with the free Google Drive storage on Chromebooks. You have access to read the information stored after the free amount, but to download or alter that information, you'll have to renew the storage for another month to remove that stuff. Not a big deal.

I'm with Verizon. That's whack if they don't give us the extras that Samsung wants to throw in. Some of them look pretty cool. Dropbox, Angry Birds Star Wars, New York Times, etc.

Add-on apps I don't see being an issue, its just added stuff, but with Verizon you just never know. The Drop Box thing may require the carrier to pony up some coin or not, tough to say. I would prefer to d/l the free extra's so I can add what I WANT not what Samsung wants me to have and waste space but that is what rooting is for.

how can verizon deny us this? if samsung offers this, will we register on their websit? if so, verizon will have a hard time denying us this since they have no authority to do so? now if samsung leaves it to the carriers to give us the 50 gis, i can see how verizon can screw it up.

I have been wondering about this also. But I wouldn't put it past VZW to pull something like that. After all, they have done things like take away the WiFi toggle in favor of a constant reminder notification.

Verizon does whatever it can to keep you from using the service you pay for. I imagine they don't want people uploading tons of stuff into the cloud....

My wife bought an S3 that came with this offer and I used my Drop box account on her S3. The 50gb was assigned to my account. I'm now wondering if I'll get an additional 50gb when I buy the Note III!?

Was that a Verizon GS3 or another carrier? As to whether you get an extra 2 years of 50GB that is a good question. I have it from a previous GN 10.1 tablet that I ended up returning last year but got the 50GB before I decided I couldn't live with the screen resolution. So I have a year left and hope that I get another 2 year extension if they do it on the GN10.1 2014 Edition. Again I suspect Verizon will screw us over and not include it. They took out the headphones and that is just plain CHEAP.

I'm from the UK mate. The S3 was bought outright from Amazon. I bought a Note II secondhand which was on the UK network Orange and that also had the 50gb Dropbox storage, but previous owner claimed that.

American carriers seem ruthless when compared to UK/European ones!

I do not think that Verizon has anything to do with it if its true. Since Dropbox is a application given by Samsung or Google. Verizon can not stop you from using Dropbox.

Well as long as you buy Samsung phones;

and if Samsung keeps offering the Dropbox deal;

and if you buy a new Samsung phone every two years;

You keep getting 50 gigs of storage every new phone and don't have to worry about it expiring.

yes, the carriers over here are cut throat and do not care anything for their customers. Contracts are the only thing that keep us chained to them.

Not true at all. Verizon isn't blocking DropBox from being installed, Verizon did not participate in the free 50GB promotion on the GN2 last year and neither did AT&T. Samsung has deals with the carriers for what gets added, taken away and freebies you see pre-loaded. If the carrier doesn't want it, likely they have to pay for it then we don't get it. Did you notice we didn't get ear buds for the GN2 and again on the GN3 yet other carriers do and overseas they do. Once again Verizon cutting corners for what a few dollars profit.

Check here:

https://www.dropbox.com/help/297/en

Even says there that your carrier has to participate.

Make sure your carrier is participating

Some carriers have opted out of the promotion on phones otherwise eligible. Among those not currently participating are the following carriers:

United States: AT&T
Japan: NTT DoCoMo
Verizon customers: Some Samsung devices on Verizon may be eligible for 48 GB of bonus space for one or two years. As described above, your device needs to be pre-loaded with the Dropbox app, or pre-loaded with the Dropbox out-of-box experience, to receive the applicable promotion. If your device does not have the Dropbox app pre-loaded, then it is not eligible.

Thanks for the added info, that at least gives us a chance at it, but I am just not that optimistic when it comes to Verizon.

In the past a link was sufficient to trick DropBox into giving it out, there was a way to get it through rooting the phones but we will have to wait and see. Who knows Verizon may surprise us this time (highly doubt it) but it could happen.
