5X w/ Fi Unable to Place Calls thru Wifi OR Cell - Anyone Experience This?

I am trying the 5X and Fi as I like the idea of using my WiFi when I can. However it's not infallible and after storms etc. I can have no internet for hours or occasionally longer. Cell is usually decent here - I had Sprint before for years and it worked OK.

I've had my 5X for just over a week and am still 'figuring it out'. Couple days ago I couldn't make outgoing calls. If I dialed a # I got an error - something like "Error dialing". Rebooted... Now when dialing It would say "Dialing" for about 30 seconds. Then it would make a single tone. Then about 30 seconds later it would say "Call ended". That's it - same behavior every time.

Despite having both good internet conected wifi and 70-80% signal stregnth with "LTE" displayed, the phone would not dial out or receive calls through either medium. I went thru all the standard online debugging steps per Google. Did internet chat w/ Fi rep and after about an hour of debugging, resetting, rebooting, clearing caches, etc. etc. etc. got it to make VOIP calls only. Another hour and a half of debugging and it finally would place and receive a call over the local cell network as well.

Kudos to the Google Fi rep who stayed with this for 2.5 hours on chat by the way. Best fix clear Project Fi app cache, power off, pull SIM card, reinstall, reboot...

The fix was somewhat temporary and the problem partially returned pretty quickly. What it now sometimes does is refuse to make cell calls even if there is no internet available. If no internet it will still do the behavior described above of dialing, tone, disconnecting... If I have internet it will call out OK.

As of today it WILL dial out on cell if there is no internet available. But it's kinda shaken my confidence in depending on this phone. Anybody else experience a problem like this? Or might this have been a unique anomaly?

We have 2 nexus 5x phones. After we loaded the last system update this past week, neither is able to receive or make calls. I get the VM & hangout alert after I miss the call but the phone never rings. Outbound calls never dial out. I've gone through all the usual steps of disabling wifi calling, resetting network settings, and turning airplane mode on/off. When the networks reinitialize, I can make 1 or 2 calls then nothing works. I did a factory reset Thursday & calls worked for about 24hrs then back to nothing.

Spent over almost 2 hour on chat w/ support Friday night doing all the same steps plus wiping the cache and trying some dial codes to switch carriers with no success. Waiting for a specialist to follow up.

Initiated another factory reset on both phones Saturday AM. Afterwards, both phones functioned with out issue.

Problem returned again after 24+ hours on both phones Sunday.
Found that removing the google account from both phones and adding it back, which re-activates the phone, seems to also restore calling functions. This is a much easier temp workaround than doing a factory reset.

Edit: spoke too soon. The reactivation worked on one phone. The other can only receive calls & still can't dial out.

I operate my 5X on Project Fi and have not had this issue. Still running 7.0

Still have not been contacted by a specialist but I sent an email to support advising of the update w/ reactivating the phones.

Support is sending out two replacement SIM cards

I spoke too soon...oh well.

Yesterday my 5x went back to being unable to make or receive a call.
Tried reactivating a couple times with no success so I had to do a wipe & reset. After the factory reset, the phone works fine again. My Wife's 5X OTOH seems to be working OK.

Still haven't received contact from a google fi specialist & the replacement SIM hasn't yet arrived

I experienced the exact same thing yesterday. Nexus 5x w/ 7.0. Extremely frustrating. I think I rebooted the phone to recover, but like the previous posts, I don't attribute that specific action to have resolved the problem. Something's going on...

Installed signal spy & I've traced my issue down to a problem with calling when connected to t-mobile @ my house.
It causes some issue with the wifi/cell selection so that the phone can't dial or receive calls. If I use a dial code to force connection to Sprint or put the phone in airplane mode w/ WiFi enabled to force WiFi calling, I have no problems.

Just got the replacement SIM card so I'll see if that changes things over the next couple days.

My wife's 5x is having this issue since updating to the latest 7.1.1, tried a factory reset and it works for a few minutes then stops receiving or making calls.
My 5x has not had this issue on 7.1.1, has anyone been able to fix it?
