6.12.173 OTA Update - Pros & Cons

my house is right on the line of 3g/4g it used to switch back and forth frequently and lose data in between the switch...since the update i haven't lost 4g:D

The only thing I have found that I don't really care for is that my phone will not go into Landscape mode while in the home screen. Not sure why. All apps will go into Landscape mode, and it has no problem with either my Car Dock or my Desktop Dock. But if I hold it in my hand and rotate it, the home screen does not go into Landscape mode any more. Not sure if it is directly related to the update, but maybe just a concidence. I even booted my phone in "Safe Mode" (to make sure it wasn't an app causing it), and the results were the same, no Landscape mode while on the home screen (or any of the phone screens), only when running an app or using the docks.

Mine has never gone into the landscape mode on the home scren when hand held. I do not have the update yeat & has never been rooted.

ok...so I got the OTA --- "videos" app says I can't view vids because my device appears to be rooted, but titanium can not acquire root privileges....I'm stumped...

I have the same issue. I didn't know I had the update downloaded and never installed rootkeeper. Woke up this morning and the update installed itself after I clicked on a force-close message that was waiting for me. Now I seem to have lost root abilities even though it is installed.

More bloatware to freeze - just can't do it. Can't unfreeze other apps I had previously frozen either.

Anyone have a suggestion? Do I just re-install root?

Got me some OTA love last night! I, too, lost data connectivity after the update. Turns out, it somehow got switched off. For anyone else experiencing this after the update, try going into Settings > Data manager and ensure that "Data enabled" is checked.

Same here... lost 3g.. had to turn it back on... also shut off ALL 3 GPS check boxes in settings--location & security... had to re-enable that too...

So far so good... I am noticing system app "network location" is building up a cache now (4kb, won't go any higher) per my "1-click Cleaner" app.... it never did that before... interesting.... :-)

Other then some of the things that have already been mentioned, and speaking of home screens, I lost 6 of my 7 rows in the docks on Launcher Plus. One was intact, the rest were crosses. I had to put the shortcuts back. No biggie...

What you were experiencing was a bug, because the phone app and home screens don't go landscape unless it's docked. It's now functioning the way it is supposed to.

Update fixed the Jan 1, 1970 bug. Thanks. Now I can add my birthdate to apps that I couldn't before.
One thing that it messed up though. In Smart Actions, I used to be able to have the screen to never timeout. Now the option is gone. The most I can go now is 10 minutes. Drats. When I'm docked in my car, I like to have the screen to never time out.

Pro: installed easier than last time; less hanging, less time overall. Like the Settings menu color icons.

Cons: more bloatware to hide.
Text icon doesn't seem to fit with the others for me for some reason
And this is a biggie: messed up speed dials, as in had to do them all over, and my contacts are all in there about four times; kind of a mess.
Motocast seems to be stomping around rather heavily in my photo gallery.

Neutral: phone seems more or less the same as to speed of moving through apps, connecting, battery life.

And this is an Android thing in general: Do the Android smilies look like that Mucinex commercial mucous cartoon guy to you?

Mine is set to stay on when charging and connected to Bluetooth. It never times out when this SA is activated

There has been a change in behavior when on the charger. First of all, we no longer get the LED going from red ->orange -> yellow -> green as the phone charges. It's gone. Second, it used to be that if the phone was on the charger you needed one long press to turn off the LED, and a second press to bot. Now you just need one long press to boot, but it doesn't start to boot until you release the button, so you think nothing is happening.

The blinking green LED that notifies you of new email is also gone. I'm told there was also an LED for text messages. That seems to be gone too.

Someone already mentioned the change in Smart Actions where Screen Timeout is limited to 10 minutes. I thought they were going to improve things?

I don't like any of these changes.

For me everything was a pro until I tried deleting a text conversation. Now my phone has the "1969 bug" anytime I delete a text conversation it gets moved to the bottom of the text message window and cannot be deleted showing a date of Dec 31, 1969. Awesome. No solutions to fix the problem either.

What is the change in the contacts widget? I haven't seen any.

Is it the settings button up in the corner, as well as the star button (haven't played with the star button)? I don't remember that being there.

I think you're right.

I think I found a bug with the update. In sounds if you set it to always vibrate then reboot the phone it will go back to only vibrate in silent mode.

I still get my notification LED.

I also noticed they got rid of the "less than 20%" battery in smart actions.

The time on the alarm clock now moves around the screen to prevent image retention when the phone is docked. Very welcome feature.
