6.5" Screen on a Smartphone... anybody?

I'm 5'2"....a phone with a 6.5" screen would look massive next to my ear!

A 4.6" screen is my limit. :D

July began an onslaught of a half-dozen Android 4.0x or 4.1 GSM dual-SIM smartphones with 854x480 displays measuring 6 inches (15.1 square inches):

CarPad Note5 F5
CarPad Note5 F6
Dapeng i9800
Dapeng i9877
Star N9770
Star/Upai/Viewsonic N9880

In addition, any day now HiLive will launch its HiWave 6-incher. According to the chart found at MTK6577 , it might be the first 6 to sport a resolution of 960x540.

I've been seeding these model names on forum after forum, and I hope you'll use your blog to make people aware of these "phablets". Some use the MediaTek MTK6575 CPU; others the MTK6577; and the N9880, confusingly, is sold in both forms.

Each sells for about $200 to $300 shipped. The N9880 (which I've ordered) comes with four buttons along the bottom row; all the rest, three buttons.

These 6 inch phablets are 88 to 91mm wide.

Could someone make a 6.5-inch phablet that's no wider? Yes. First, by making the glass edge-to-edge. Second, by using a display with an elongate, 2:1 aspect ratio, like the Coolpad 9930.

It is to big in my opinion. Might look a tad funny with so many things stuffed in my pockets

Anybody see this?
Samsung Unveils Galaxy Player 5.8 | PCWorld

Sure, it is "just" a music player with a crappy screen. But it wouldn't take a giant leap to make this a 5.8" phone. And at that point, we could easily see someone coming up with a 6" phone to make a nice round number.

I wouldn't say that a larger phone is completely out of the question. It comes down to what will the market support? Obviously 5.3 is not too big, otherwise Samsung would not have sold however-many-million units. 5.5 is probably also not too big considering the hype around the Note 2. And I fully anticipate the 5.8 to come to reality, too.

No way. That's a tablet. There is no way you could even fit that in your pocket.

Why have a phone with a screen this big. I believe all android phones should fall in between 3.5 and 5.5 inches. 5.5 for the people who want a screen that big (just use a tablet) and 3.5 for the low end phones or players. I actually like the note 2's look but it is freakishly large. Just imagine that 5.8 inch gallery player sammy announced, it looks stupid big in the hand.

I don't see why manufacturers won't just make a tablet with a phone built in. I would buy a nexus 7 sized tablet with phone capabilities in a heart beat. In fact, I wouldn't even mind carrying it around, I'd somehow find a way.

Some people carry both a tablet and a phone, why not just REALLY combine the two. I could see a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 being successful in the market. I'd buy it =D

YES! A 7" phablet would be ideal for me.

I pre-ordered an HTC Flyer (which I ultimately returned to Best Buy because of a technical flaw). The two weeks I had it, I took it everywhere and felt that I should be able to text and talk on it. Using it as a phone would have been second nature; it was the perfect size for me.

I think it is separate category by itself. In my opinion, ideal phone screen size should be between 4.5 to 5.5". When it comes to phone, apart from screen size, flexibility is also important. When screen is bigger it is hard to manage with one hand. I think 6.5" require you to engage the device with 2 hands, hence in my opinion not the ideal size!
