6.7.247 ics leak

Samurai you're awesome. If I was able to figure out how to put 247 on my phone anyone can. My question (sorry if it's a dumb one) is if 247 is OTA will we be on the manufacturer upgrade path for jelly bean?

Could someone please explain what the big deal is with going to ICS on the Bionic?

I just upgraded my Pantech Element tablet from Honeycomb to ICS a couple of days ago and other than a few cooler graphic transitions, it is basically the same. I haven't really noticed anything different at all. Maybe that is because the difference between Honeycomb to ICS isn't that drastic. But even the difference between my Bionic and my tablet is minimal, at least visually and operationally, as far as I can tell.

What makes the Bionic so much better with ICS? Mine works great as it is.

Thanks.

The Bionic was released with a dual core running on an OS built for slower devices. With ICS it is a totally different phone, in a sense, the phone that it was designed to be. It's snappier and much smoother than Gingerbread. So not only are you getting a faster, smoother device. You're getting a better user interface, a better task manager, viewable widgets, updated widgets designed for ICS (ex youtube). etc etc. There are more but I just installed 247 today and that's everything I've noticed so far. The speed difference is huge.

Fixed issue with me where the WiFi kept dropping a signal. I had to restart it to get it to work.
Faster, much faster. Not sure why, but absolutely no lagging ( I had that on the GB build).
Looks better, the asthetics are a good step up from GB.
My phone used to have randoom reboots. Doesn't now. (this could have been a bad app that I havent' been able to nail down)

GB only utilizes 1core, Honeycomb and ICS utilize all available cores on the device, so on the Bionic it uses both cores now.

Also the ICS update increases the clock speed from 1.0 to 1.2GHz.

The other major issue it addresses, was the data drop. It would constantly loose data, and I would have to either place the phone in airplane mode, and back to normal or reboot the phone to get data.

All of these issues have finally been resolved with the ICS 247 update.

It's actually not. It'll end up being a good thing but it's hard to see that from this viewpoint. In a few months, we'll look back and thank them for this move. I know it sucks at the moment, but, trust me, it's not for no reason at all.

well, in a couple of months or less I should be able to get JB on a Sammy phone (Note II on Verizon) and keep the Bionic as a backup or just sell it.

I don't find my Bionic slow and I've also got a nexus 7 which is pretty speedy. Just what are you doing with the Bionic (prior to ICS) that was lagging? perhaps it's something you've installed? I'm a picky bugger, yet I can't find anything to complain about in the speed department. I know everything is relative, but just taken by itself, I wouldn't say my Bionic is slow. If you want to talk about slow, lets talk about my 3rd? generation iPod Touch. That thing is a DOG--on the last 3 major iOS releases.

Then when you get to ics you'll think it's blazing fast. Lol. As for the note 2...another locked device subject to vzw upgrade policies. I'll just hang on to the bionic until I can get a quad core unlockable device next year.

+1 on this. VoLTE is also one of the factors that I'm waiting for, but the Bionic with at least ICS will serve quite well until that comes along.

Where did you read that?

It's possible they'll skip the soak. Once the atrix 2 is done they'll either do a soak or go directly to ota. There is precedence for skipping a soak. They did so with the D4. We're keeping an eye on it daily.

Yes, there are some interesting e-mails going around. In other unrelated news I'm going to FXZ back to 905.

Soak emails are going out now....um, "according to reports." ;)

This begs the question, so I'll go ahead and ask now... Would those of us on the 232 leak be better off doing a fill fxz to 905 and take the update OTA, or wait until you get HoB set up to handle it?

Obviously not doing anything until the OTA is fully confirmed and not having any major issues like they did with the Razr ICS OTA update.

Pretty obvious 247 is the OTA - At least I hope.

Even if it is, I'm holding off a bit. What happened to the Razr was the update was sound, but not everything was sent to the phones right initially and required a trip to a VZW store for factory reset and manual reinstall of ICS via USB link. Don't want to risk that on this phone.
