Did you ever stop and realize that since we've gotten our subsidized GNex phones and signed the new 2-year agreement that we've gone a quarter of the way through our contract period with devices that have not worked as they should? And if the new update doesn't address the serious issues with the phone, it's possible that we can go through more than half of our contract period with sub-par devices. A contract should come with some responsibility on the part of Verizon. What do we get in return for signing a 2-year agreement? All I've gotten so far is regular, unexplained 3G/4G signal drops at the worst possible time, daily unexplained reboots, poor radios, increasing lag, bluetooth issues, horrible battery, and no google wallet - all of which Verizon and Samsung acknowledge, but are slow in fixing. I know that many here love the GNex, but we shouldn't have to root and unlock to get the functionality that was intended and advertised. I like my GNex, but I have become disillusioned with Samsung and Verizon equally. This cannot be the norm going forward. We should at least be allowed after a certain amount of time to jump to another device without going through half of our contract period as beta testers.

hard to argue with you. Verizon presumably would not have batted an eyelash if every one of us walked into their stores to return or exchange our phones. Those who didn't took a gamble that the issues would be fixed promptly. Like you, we wanted our Ice Cream sandwich. Guess what, others can get it with newer releases on new, while we still get diddly.

Many posters here have said that we should be patient. They've been saying that since January. I put all the resp. in Verizon's court because that's who my contract is with, that's who I bought the phone from. They have moved on to other things. We are stuck.

Personally, I don't even see advertisements for the GNex anymore - actually, it's been quite a while since I've seen one. From my vantage point, Verizon really has moved on...and so has Samsung for that matter. You are right...we are stuck.
 
my nexus is perfect. the best phone i've ever own or likely will ever own. i'll hold onto it until grim death (or until verizon agrees to another nexus device)

Obviously the phone has issues you were unhappy with and have since had to take matters into your own hands. If it were the best phone ever there wouldn't be all these complaints and guys like you, who have risked your warranty by loading unreleased software, saying "best phone ever".

If you were looking for a hobby it may be the best phone ever, if you were looking for a working phone it is severely lacking.

You realize you have made a blanket statement there by using the word "we". You should substitute "I" instead.

I did too. Therefore "we" signed a 2 yr contract on a phone in which "we" experience radio/rebooting issues. Not everyone got a top-notch Nexus.

no, no, he/she had it right. He/she can say "we" because this phone's signal is so full of crapped, it forced me to put a custom rom on my phone that has 4.0.4. It also forced my hands to root my wife's phone because every time she fired up the god damn camera, it reboots and I get told about it.

So yeah, "we" are stuck w/ this phone.

fortunately, the liquidsmooth rom has work wonders for this phone. Perhaps, VZW is saying "fu" to all of us and have us rely on custom rom so they don't have to pay for any testing time.

if you haven't experienced any issues, good for you.
 
Anyone that thinks their nexus is perfect is smoking the crack pipe. I have had 6 of the phones already not one solved the problem. There is no such thing as a perfect nexus at this point, plain and simple.

I often unlock and root and load all the ROMs but as said I shouldn't have too, and its not a "fix" when the customer has to flash their own system to make it even semi "work". And for those that say " You bought the wrong device if you don't want to flash" BULL my nexus one was top notch same as my nexus S. There is no reason we shouldn't be pissed. Then there is the group that says "return the device if you hate it" , and 14 days isn't enough time to fully test the device nor the carrier support for it. 6 months later, we now know where it sits, and thats in the out dated old phone pile that they don't care about any more.

The verizon store by me hasn't had stock of the Nexus for weeks they have to order it in, Why? because its selling like hotcakes..... NOT .... because they simply have moved on...

Anyways just sucks that I paid a 1200.00 ETF fee for my family to go to Verizon and get a phone we have assumed would work and got the shaft.

Lag and signal issues for me. I don't want to root my phone. I don't feel like I should have to root. I like vanilla android but I would like for the phone to work and not have major issues at the same damn time.
 
I was really trying to wait Verizon out. While it wasn't exactly official that we were going to get first dibs on updates we all certainly expected it. I kept hearing it was coming and it was coming. I'd rooted my Fascinate and it became a bit unstable so I was determined to leave the GN stock. Well, I finally gave up and rooted. The 2 biggest things that annoyed me were the super crazy slow screen rotation, low volume and signal strength.

Of course 90% of the Verizon customers have no clue there there might even be an update in the works and doesn't know that the phone could/should work better so maybe we are a small group of complainers to Verizon and they have brushed us aside.

For those leery of rooting, there is an essentially 1 step process that I can point you towards if you're interested. Worst part was having to reset up all of my apps, but I think you can do a backup to make that easier. It fixed the signal strength and screen rotation but the volume still sucks (Volume+ fixed that).

I didn't want to do it, but I'm now glad that I did.

I do love the phone though, save for the scratch prone screen.
 
Maybe the longer the wait the more folks root. Maybe it is some sort of Orwellian experiment or maybe if more folks root the less updates need pushing out.
 
I really don't understand these threads. If you don't like your phone and feel its a lemon, work with Verizon. Be persistent. Verizon has offered me a different phone countless times throughout my time with them when I've had bad history with a phone. Either that, eBay or Craigslist your phone and use the money to buy a brand-new phone. It's not rocket science.

You have the above as options or you can unlock/rom. While I understand the whole "I shouldn't have to unlock/Rom" argument, its really old and illogical. People have a solution at their grasp which will cure 99% of what ails their phone woes but choose not to take advantage of the solution. I find that illogical and just pure stubbornness.

Please, why don't you just all do yourselves a favor and lose the phone? No amount of crying and whining is going to help. Be proactive.

i was bone stock 4.0.2 with a locked bootloader and unrooted up until 2-3 weeks ago, and yeah it was perfect for me then too. i always root, not out of necessity, but because i can. i risk nothing by rooting. you do realize its a developer phone, right? you do realize that any unlocking and rooting is 100% reversible, right?

i feel bad for you dude. just return it or get another phone. it's clear that no amount of convincing is going to change your mind anyway
 
Working at best buy, i NEVER recommend the Galaxy Nexus to customers. I feel like as a stock phone, it's extremely poor phone. The only reason i have it is for its development, longetivity and its guarantee of Jelly bean.

Please provide a link to anything from Verizon saying it is a "developer phone."
 
I admit, I see these threads all over, not just here. A ton of people are really pissed. This device failed to deliver with Verizon at the helm. I don't think there will be a pure Verizon Nexus? You have a 25% chance of getting a good device from what I read...good luck.

I am a Android freak when iOS is down. You don't even understand how much money I spent and how bad I wanted a good Nexus....that was the goal. I would way rather go with a ONE or a GS3...grab a Nexus from Google @ 399, it isn't even worth that headache unless you are willing to spend your life tweaking it. This device wont even make it to next year at this time....time is up. IMHO.
