64gb SD card issues?

Just got my S4 this past week and I was using a 16gb sd card I had laying around with no problem. I upgraded to a 64gb card 2 days ago, and now it's a hassle connecting to my Macbook and the phone will randomly tell me the sd card was removed throughout the day. Is this an S4 issue, or did I just get a bad card maybe?

Husbands S3 works just fine with the same brand 64gb card...

I had some problems using the 64gb I got from SanDisk even when NOT connected to the device. Putting it in my card reader, which is compatible with SDXC and worked fine with a Kingston 64gb, saw it "time out" periodically. It did so even more often when used in the phone. Sometimes it seems fine. But I was always wondering when I was going to get another "can't read card" message. Still, I ultimately managed to get 55 gb of stuff transferred. Most worked, especially if I unplugged the phone at times and in essence rebooted the USB connection. I did find at times for more limited stuff that it might actually be easier to copy to the phone and then use the phone's file manager to move to the card.

You say you're connecting S4 to MacBook? I have 0 experience with Apple, which may add other issues.

NB: once everything was copied, the card itself works perfectly in the S4. There have been no errors, no issues.

The unmounting and mounting of the sd card has been a commonly reported issue. The solution seems to be for some, that they power down the phone, pull out the battery for at least 30 secs, reinsert and power on the phone.

Also you may want to format your card to exFat for larger file sizes. You have to do this on your computer because the S4 formatting does offer not this option.

I have a Sandisk "ultra" 64gb card that is doing the same thing. My googling lead me to believe it is a problem with the Sandisk card. I've emailed their technical support (about a week ago, actually) but I haven't heard back yet.

Never had this on my previous Galaxies (Note 2, S3).

I alo have the Ultra 64GB (formatted to ExFat) but my issue is the S4 telling me it's Damaged even though it isn't.

I bought the Ultra 32GB to test it out and no issues wether it's ExFat or FAT32.

From reviews on the SanDisk ultra 64 card there seems to be an extraordinarily high failure rate with this card...not sure if this is a SanDisk thing or a 64GB card thing but this seems to be more obvious with SanDisk!

Cheers

Anyone have a recommendation for a card? This the one I was going to pick up.... I guess not now. I plan on doing a memory swap so that I can have more internal memory, and obviously I need a reliable card for this

I should note that despite what I said, after concluding the intermittent struggle to copy some 50+ gigs of stuff (tip-- start with making sure the phone is UNlocked if you use security; if it times out, unplug it; replug it in; but note that I had problems with the card in a SDXC card reader TOO), the card has been flawless. I've moved, deleted, copied, added. Read ebooks on the card. Played MP3s. No issue whatsoever.

Always liked Kingston, though, first and foremost. Have had good luck with Panasonic, too. Some so-called lesser brands like Transcend have worked well for me, too.

I heard there was a big issue with the Sandisk Ultra 32gb ones. Apparently it was their old stock or something because Amazon pulled the 32gb model out of the markernfor a couple days. I bought mine from Best Buy and it seems to be working fine and I've had it for about 2 weeks.

I don't think EVERY card has a problem. I've had a few SanDisk Ultra 32GB cards and had no problems, and I now have a 64GB SanDisk card which seems to be fine (too new to say for sure).

I always format my cards as fat32 if that makes a difference.

I have two Sandisk 64gb micro cards that are pretty old. No problems in phones. Couldn't find an Adata or Transcend that are usually cheaper and also scream.

Kingston SD cards .... the *** NEW Kingston SD *** cards are now working with Samsung devices.

My first Kingston 64 GB SD card stopped working months ago and asked Kingston for a RMA and they sent my new card. Now this new card has stopped working as well ... i asked Kingston what the problem was and they mentioned the the last batches of 64 GB SD cards were not compatible with Samsung Phones. I have two (2) Kingston 64 GB SD cards. Check the numbers on your Kingston SD cards NOW...

the two cards i have now are being returned via RMA and the numbers i have are

Did you get any explanation as to why this might be?

Cards are supposedly made to a standard. What's different about the new batch?
