Currently I still have my unlimited on Verizon. Galaxy s5 using Foxfi for my hot spot for free. Since the 6p is unlocked will I be able to use the builtin hot spot without paying Verizon 20 bucks a month? I am making the presumption that Foxfi may not work in the 6p. FoxFi does not list any Marshmallow phones as compatible.

You don't need foxfi...the built in hotspot on the 6p will work

With all due respect, doesn't using the built-in hotspot feature on the phone trigger a request to the carrier to confirm you are eligible to use the hotspot? (in other words, paying that $20/month) I thought one of the benefits of FoxFi was that it bypasses that check.

I'm no expert on hotspots though.... anyone?

Perhaps, but when I used it I never had an issue and I don't pay for hotspot

Just to confirm. You are also on Verizon? And you don't have a family share plan or anything light that? Because if you do hot spot is already included.

I have Verizon and it doesn't do a credentials check to see if you have a tethering package. It just turns right on

You didn't answer his question. Do you have an unlimited plan? Hotspot is included in all limited data plans but not on the unlimited plan, I have a 3G plan and indeed hotspot works as expected but the OP has a grandfathered unlimited plan and rumor has it that hotspot doesn't work on unlimited plans and that Foxfi no longer works. A rooted device should be able to bypass the credentials check but it's possible that a non-rooted device can't. Someone with an unlimited Verizon plan needs to answer the OPs question.

I have a UDP and the built in hotspot works on VZW with no issues. I've used it a few times.

FYI FoxFi is working again. Although the net was ablaze that Verizon had deviously killed it on the network end that was not the case. It was a FoxFi server issue. That being said I appreciate all the follow up and clarifications.
