I'm using my 6P on VZW. I'm confused as to why I wouldn't get the 7.1.1. OTA.
Does anyone have any insight?
Thank you.

Looks like Google has sold their 6P users that use Verizon out.

I noticed after 711 installed Verizon enhanced 4g features switch was gone under cellphone network.
Google has done nothing but lip service.
Verizon on the other hand had stepped up.

Their techs saw that after the update my advanced features had been disabled. So they refreshed all my features and now the advanced features setting is back. Call quality is about 80% quality but better.
Looks as if Google is following the greed path meaning Google is becoming The new Apple

Android has been a great OS but we were at the mercy of Manufacturers for updates that's why A lot of turned to Google and a pure Android direct from the source, looks like that has changed.

Apple updates almost all of their devices at the same time even 2 to 3 generations. Back

Hopefully a coder can figure what Google left out of 711 and are able to give us a way to side load a fix.

I have A 6P on Verizon running 7.1.1 - enhanced 4g has always been there since I got the phone and still is.

The enhanced options won't be there if your account doesn't support it, they got turned off on your account so your phone couldn't access them. When I was still with Verizon they kept turning off my advanced features too for who knows what reason and this was on my 6p and my droid Maxx before it

My memory ain't what it used to be. I forgot that I activated the enhanced features on my account while I had G4. That needs to be activated for wi-fi calling. That would work if you had NO cell service only (not 1 bar but zero signal). I guess it carried over on my 6P. As far as I know they have never turned that feature off.

Re: Confused

Verizon has been like this in the past, though not usually with Nexus devices.

This is 100% pure speculation with absolutely no confirmed facts whatsoever so please treat it as such and make your own decision:

Google signed the exclusive deal with VZW for selling Pixel devices in brick-and-mortar stores. Now that they're releasing the next major Android update, VZW is delayed - maybe they're working on "exclusive features" or perhaps tweaking for VZW's "LTE advanced" as part of their deal? The timing seems suspicious to me, but what do I know?

Or it could just be that VZW's network is really just that different and difficult to work with. I remember being on VZW with my HTC One M8 running a custom ROM and the VZW edition always came out at least a couple weeks after the "regular" version.

Re: Confused

If you bought your 6P from Verizon, I don't know. I bought my unlocked 6P from Amazon & got a Verizon sim (actually from their store, needed to deactivate my G4). I believe my updates have come straight from Google and not Verizon. I even had to download a Verizon app to access my account.

Re: Confused

Thanks for the responses. I bought it unlocked from Swappa and activated it on Verizon. I would think that the update would come right from Google. Verizon wouldn't get a say.

Yes, the updates do come from Google. All Nexus devices are unlocked already, so that shouldn't matter.

Google has delayed the 7.1.1 OTA for Verizon customers. They detect what network you're on before pushing the update, so while Verizon has no hand in the updates at all, Google has intentionally held back the update for Verizon users. All Verizon users are experiencing the same situation as you are.

Re: Confused

My money is on some issue with the network... Verizon has a funky network and it needs done tweaking to work right. They should just move over to full GSM like T-Mobile and AT&T (and the rest of the world for that matter)

But.... As always.... Because Verizon

I wouldn't blame Google right off.. my guess is that there's some issue in there because Verizon always does what Verizon wants on their network... So rather than release an update that borks something, they held it back while engineers at both parties work their stuff out.

I think It's a marketing scheme to get people to buy the Pixel from Verizon .

Will this happen with all Nexus 6Ps on Verizon?

If the features weren't in 7.1.1, they wouldn't have shown up after Verizon did the refresh. It means that Verizon shut your features off and then the rep turned them back on once you complained to them about it. Blame the party that's actually causing the issue. (Note, that doesn't seem to be Google.)

I think the name of this thread should really be "Looks like Verizon has sold their 6P users out because Verizon doesn't sell the 6P and wants you to buy a new phone from them".

Re: Looks like Google has sold their 6P users that use Verizon out.

So, just another post complaining about something (venting)... and they think everybody (specifically Google in this case) is out to get them... destroy their world...

Just maybe it was BIG RED's (Verizon's) issue. After reading most the reply's with no response from the Original Poster... I'm going to have to side on the side of it was Verizon that caused the issue... things just don't come back after you talk to Verizon unless Verizon did something to cause the original issue. They are always changing things... no all for the better... I just recovered from their *86 voice mail issue after Verizon made a change to their voice mail systems and because WE did not have a Verizon phone the 6P could not get to our voice mail using the old *86... this took me a while to figure out since I got some voice message that day and could not get to it.

Don't get me wrong... I'm not a Verizon hater, or in love with them... I currently use them, have for a while now, but there are others out there. I have used AT&T, and Project Fi in the last couple years, but I'm back on Verizon because they have a reliable network in my location.

I was with Verizon for years. They were the only carrier that would reliably get a signal at my old house - AT&T would have zero bars, T-Mobile would have bars but calls wouldn't come in (texts would come in but delayed and wouldn't always send) and Sprint...we never wanted to use Sprint. Verizon would have 5 bars and full 3G (back in the day) or LTE coverage.

But it was such a pain because of delayed OTA updates. I switched to a custom ROM for my One M8 and even the custom ROM had delayed releases for Verizon (it was actually a different ROM version specific for Verizon).

Re: Confused

If it's that critical for you to see this update... sign up for the beta test group... you will get the updates in the first couple days. I've had the beta version for testing for a long time, then got the latest version before it was released to the general public. I signed up for this way back, but after most of the serious testing of 7.0, and got the 7.0 just before it went public... I've been in on the beta ever since... testing 7.1.1 was pretty seamless with no issues for me.

I have read about voicemail access issues after this update. What did you have to do to resolve not being able to use Verizon's voicemail? This is the issue holding me back from the update.
