7.1.1 for the Nexus 6P on Verizon

7.1.1?

Does anyone know when the 7.1.1 rollout will be completed? I'm stock, Verizon, and i haven't gotten it yet.:p

There is no currently approved 7.1.1 build available for Verizon. It is anyone's guess when or if that will happen. The only way to get it is through the Beta program or manually flash or side load it.

Re: Confused

Yeah... just because the Verizon ones are held back doesn't necessarily mean that everyone with a 6P on the Verizon network will have some nasty problem. It could very well only affect a small percentage of users, but just enough to pass a "let's delay the release" threshold.

If it were me, I'd flash the damn thing and be done with it. If things got messed up, just slap 7.0 back on there. It's a Nexus. :)

Re: Looks like Google has sold their 6P users that use Verizon out.

Wait, you installed software that's explicitly stated should not be running on Verizon devices and something isn't working and somehow Google sold you out? Really?

It's a Nexus. Google makes it very, very easy to work with flashing images. They also post all their OTA updates online, so you can sideload.

What's the difference?

"Images" are full system installs - they require a full wipe of your phone. Any prior version image can be installed because it's a fresh wipe and install, not an update. Images are "flashed" to the device, and the wipe is part of the flash.

"OTA" updates are the files you receive from Google Over The Air. These are updates, not full system images, and so they do not require a full wipe. OTAs are "side loaded" which does not wipe the phone, but you can only install a newer version of Android, not an older one. If you ever want to go back to a previous version, you'll need to flash an image.

Also, Google has not approved the 7.1.1 update for Verizon. That's the reason why you haven't received the update yet. This does not happen often so the update should roll out to Verizon users soon.

No, root is not necessary. There are ways to to flash and tools and tutorials out there to help. Basic ADB commands can sideload an OTA update that you download from Google.

The OTA from Google specifically says that it is not approved for Verizon right now, so if any Verizon user sideloads the OTA, they may experience some issues - or they may not. I have no idea, but I'm sure Google had a reason for delaying the roll out to Verizon users.

Google specifically says on the OTA download page that the latest build is NOT for Verizon users. If people ignore that message, Google is not fault for whatever may happen.

Re: Confused

I sure would like to know why up until this build there were no Verizon specific warnings. Seems fishy to me. I am a Verizon subscriber and I was offered this update OTA while I was enrolled in the Google beta program. I was late to the beta program so I never had a DP build pushed to me and was still on stock 7.0 when the 7.1.1 final release was offered. The Developer program must override the network detection.

Re: Confused

Just joined the Beta program and will be updating as soon as I get to WiFi. Screw you Verizon.

Thanks guys. I'm going to wait. I'll take out the sim, and put it in my Moto Z Droid. Just wondering, if the Nexus 7.1.1 does roll out for Verizon, can my phone get it without having the sim inside? Thanks for the help.:p

If you remove the sim card and leave it active on wi-fi, I think you would be more likely to have the current OTA arrive. Google would not know it was a Verizon phone without the sim card.

Re: Confused

Odd, I am on Verizon and got the update just fine. I haven't had any problems so far and it has greatly improved the stability. I was getting reboots 2-4 times a day and it has only done it once since the update.

I bought it used off ebay 2 weeks ago and put my verizon note 7 sim in it.

I've had my sim out for a few days. No OTA and I'm on DP2.

I'd really love an idea how/why Verizon can block a Google device OTA.

Some how it was pushed to my 6P I'm on Verizon it caused bad call issues. Google denied it specifically left Verizon out but .... So after hard reset.
And with Verizon tech support we figured out that after the update it caused all the advanced features that were enabled on Verizon to switch off causing bad call quality , So Verizon reset my system and the 6P seems to be OK now.
Google has offered to replace my 6P but as I told them that's not going fix any issues if they aren't supporting Verizon in 6P firmware. And to me that is a breach of the agreement when I purchased an unlocked 6P from Google when they promised at least 2years of updates. At no time was I told that Verizon customers would be excluded from updates.
I am waiting on that response.
But as of now my 6 P is working well with Verizon's assistance. And I am running 7.1.1 NMF26F

And note Verizon did not block anything they went above and beyond to help correct the issues.

Re: Confused

I wish I received the update ! I have a unlocked nexus 6p with a verizon sim too. I personally think it's a marketing scheme to get people to buy a Pixel phone. Verizon probably asked Google to hold up since they are selling Google's new phone... a greedy partnership.
