My ripped blurays that I own. Each two hour movie is about 500 megs. I stripped out the 5.1 audio and left it at 2 channel stereo. Resolution I brought it down to 720p. It should still work no? I have a week to fix this otherwise I plan to exchange it for a different Android tablet.
I'm not sure what software you used, but I use 123 Copy DVD and it works pretty good. I do leave the audio untouched, so maybe that makes a difference? A 2 hour movie (from DVD) for me turns out to be around 1.5 GB.
DVD provides lower resolution. I'm ripping from bluray. This tableland supposedly can handle 1080p but so far it seems people are having problems even with 720p on the web.
Do you have the newest build? Go in to SETTINGS->ABOUT TABLET and make sure it says Android version 3.2 and Build Number 8.6.5.6-20110726
If not, hit the link that says "System Firmware Update" an then "Check for update" which should grab the update for you.
Earlier builds had trouble with 720p, but that was resolved with a patch along the way. I have only played 720p videos from YouTube, but they all worked fine. I do not have a blueray player or movie to rip and try.
It seems to be a problem with Tegra 2 and hardware acceleration that can't play certain file formats very well. This is not limited to the Asus Transformer, but across all Android tablets that use Tegra 2.
I just watched an HD video rental from the market over the weekend and playback was fine. Also I've streamed HD content from youtube and never had any choppy playback issues.
I?ve converted a number of BR rips to 720p AVC main profile and high profile (after the 3.1 patch) without stuttering (beyond the typical 24p->60p judder.)
I use Handbrake, but there are umpteen different programs out there to do it.
