I've got an older tab 2, 7 inch.
It's just slow in today's environment but still works fine.
I was going to get this A 8 inch.
My phone is a note 4 and I have a desktop pc .
This would be used for writing, email, e reader, Facebook and browsing.
If I size UP from the 8..is there any real advantage other than simply having more real estate to deal with?
Is the extra size worth the extra need for a man to carry around?
I can stick an 8 in a pocket on a coat or something.
Larger tablets, whatever the size, can be a lot to have to carry around.
Some are ridiculous platter sized.
But it maybe worth it?
Thanks.

I went from a 7 inch to 8 inch and for me it makes all the difference. It's not that much difference in weight and overall size but visually the difference is noticeable, at least for me.

I'll provide some background so that you know the perspective I'm coming from. I own (or have owned) several Samsung tablets (Tab 7.7, Tab 4 7.0, Note 8, and Tab A 8.0) and iPads (Air and Mini 4). Over the years, several of them have been my primary cellphone (Samsung's international variants have telephony).

There is a noticeable difference between a 7" and 8" in portability, handling, and display functionality. There is yet another difference between 8" and 9.7". I find that a 7" tablet imposes almost no wardrobe constants, fitting into even the front pockets of my pants, though that's not my preferred location. An 8" tablet is relegated to the cargo pockets of my pants and shorts, which is not a big limitation for me. I can palm 7"and 8" comfortability and almost always hold them single handed. This includes holding it up to my ear when using it as a phone, and because my preferred method of input uses a stylus, which is held in my other hand. The largest tablet I've owned is the iPad Air. It's biggest shortcoming is that it does not fit into any of my pockets, it must be carried. This is a major inconvienant since I typically do not use a backpack, briefcase, or purse. Furthermore, Its too wide and heavy to hold in one hand for long periods of time. Input requires two hands or lying it on a flat surface, another inconvenience. For me, where the size excels is media consumption. It would also be good at input tasks that could benefit from a large screen, but for those cases I use my laptop.

There is a noticeable difference in the amount of information that can be displayed, which is so important to me that I stopped using smartphones. Most of the time I use an 8 in tablet in portrait mode. Information displays sufficiently that I do not need it presented in landscape. But doing so makes it as large as it would appear on a 9.7". With 7" screen, things are significantly smaller and I spend more time in landscape mode, which requires enough scrolling to become annoying. I never find the need to turn the Air to landscape except for watching video.

My uses are probably different than yours, so YMMV. I hope it's helpful in determining what's right for you. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies, I ordered an 8" yesterday.
I ordered it from Amazon so I can return it if it doesn't fit my needs.
But all of the reviews are really good for it.
The answer about the portability was important to me.
I can't imagine carrying around one of these huge iplates.
I'm excited to get it in and see how it goes.
