What is your reaction to the 808 going in the G4? Good move? Bad move? Sound off below.

As for me, I think it was probably a good move.

It looks like a correct decision on LG's part. The phone looks blazing fast throughout the ui. Think this will be the best android device this part of the year alongside the s6

I am inclined to agree. I think this will give the S6 a run for it's money.

For the average user it should be good, but for the heavy users and gamers they may want to rather go Galaxy S6 or HTC One M9 going by the benchmarks at the bottom here:

Prise en main du LG G4, à la recherche de la différence - FrAndroid

The GPU in the 808 is the Adreno418, its weaker than even the Adreno420 in the Nexus 6 and Note 4, and much weaker than the S810's Adreno430.

AnandTech mention the GPU does suffer from a drop in performance vs. 430:
LG Announces the G4: 5.5-inch QHD with Snapdragon 808

I expect neglible difference in performance, even in heavy use. Maybe heavy gamers might be affected a tiny amount, but who games seriously on a smartphone?! Any gamer worth his salt would play on a dedicated gaming device, not a crappy smartphone screen with awful controls. The only games that work well on smartphones are word games and such, not live action games.

It's pretty hard to distinguish yourself from the crowd based on performance because how benchmarks translate to real life usage is subjective. The leather will stand out for this device, and probably the screen and camera if they can shout loud enough about them.

Don't forget the S6 is a fragile glass phone. Glass never ends well.

pretty disappointed that they didn't use the 810, it could've have killed the s6 in all categories.

S6 is actually pretty durable.

You would be surprised at just how many gamers are leaving the pc and consoles for mobile gaming. I'm one of them.

I play first person shooters mostly, but plenty of online multi-player games (mmo) as well as single player games, and I do it all with some of the best controls you can find with my Moga pro that looks and works just like an xbox controller. In fact mobile gaming is getting so popular that Nvidia made the original shield (not talking about the tablet)

Because wifi is popping up everywhere by me, I'm able to play a quick round of MC while waiting for my food to arrive at a restaurant or while waiting at a bus stop. Gaming no longer has to be confined to your desk or living room couch. You are now free to play any place and with graphics on par with a play station 2/3.

I'm in no way saying that mobile gaming is going to replace consoles or the pc, but it is being more popular each day and you must be stuck in the 90s to think that our phones and tablets can only play word games.

Heck, even mortal combat just came to mobile, and developers wouldn't do this if gaming on mobile wasn't popular.

The 808 doesn't mind me one bit.

While the GPU is a bit underwhelming, overall performance is impressive. It's also been reported that it's faster than the 810-powered G Flex 2 in overall day-to-day use.

Since I don't do heavy gaming on my phone, this is fine. Furthermore, it should help battery life.

Just watched a video on Android Authority (I think) and the reviewer had a G4 beside the S6. Pushing the same buttons to activate similar functions, the G4 opened everything faster -- including the camera, a full second faster than the S6. No stutter, lag or jank.

Maybe I'm a victim of the latest and greatest chips, but the 808 just doesn't feel cutting edge. It's clearly a step down - 6 cores vs 8 cores in the 810, 2K capability vs 4K capability for the 810, Adreno 418 GPU vs Adreno 430 GPU for the 810, 1866MHz memory vs 3600MHz in the 810.

Is this the video? LG G4 vs Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge quick look

You can see at 2:30 when he hits the camera button on both phones, the LG G4 fires up the camera quite a bit faster than the S6 Edge. Very impressive. Also just on that hands on, the G4 looks to be snappier than the S6 around the UI.

I'll have to test it out myself to see how it holds up, but it's looking promising.

I saw that video I was surprised how fast the G4 was . no lag smooth as can be and it was noticeably faster than the s6. What's interesting is from what I've read they say the exynos 7420 is a lot more powerful than the 808. From a visual standpoint that wasn't the case from what I saw but I know a lot more goes into testing the capabilities of a chip

Raw hardware power is one thing, software optimisation is another. You can have the most powerful hardware running like crap is the software isn't optimized well for it.

That's one thing I'm noticing about these LG G4 videos - it looks to be very well optimised. Everything looks super snappy with quick transitions and no delay/lag that I can tell.

Quite impressed with it to be honest. I want to see and hold the black leather model.

I watched it as well.

I'm surprised at how much faster the G4 was when opening the camera, and despite the seemingly weaker SoC, it's snappier overall.

Excellent optimization by LG if that's so.

A dedicated gaming device can be a console or a mobile device. What I meant was, and it's just an opinion, is that no serious gamer plays smartphones games that heavily. I barely play games myself but if I were I'd much rather do it on a dated ps2 or a handheld console. The number of people that want maximum mobile gaming performance on a smartphone can't be that large. Most quick casual games don't need a lot of horsepower, hence why incremental processor upgrades make no difference to performance. I don't think the 808 will make any difference to 96% of the population. They simply don't care or need the extra graphical power

I honestly don't see the need for super intensive gaming on a smartphone, but I am sure that some people do I want the best day to day experience with mine and extremely awesome battery life. I'll watch a movie or 2,with a lot of browsing texting phone calls and emails and texting...

I can't wait until I get mine
