8gb or 16gb

I think most people would agree a $250 32gb Nexus 7 would not only be amazing, but would have shut a lot of people up, and gained a lot more buyers.

Oh, I almost guarentee that we will see a 32GB (64GB even?) version in the future... This initial offering of 8GB and 16GB plays two parts:

a) it allows them to hit the "under $200" price/storage point equal to the Kindle Fire in order to advertise and appeal to those who care most about cost.

b) With the base model only being 8GB, it encourages those who prefer more storage to buy the "upgraded" 16GB version for "only $50 more", increasing their profit. I think this is smart, from a marketing point.

I'm not in need of tons of storage, (I already have a 16GB iPad 2 -which is fine) but I know that I want more than 8GB. Had there been a $199 16GB version and a $249 32GB version, I would have bought the $199 (therefore they wouldnt have gotten the profit increase on me as a customer), and I don't think I would be the only one.

This. Once JB rolls out to GNs, Android Beam + WiDi is how I'll move large files between with my GN as the main storage vessel.

Well...unfortunately my dreams (and yours) have been dashed. I did not realize until I tried to do this that Android Beam uses Bluetooth...meaning transfer speeds are dismally slow. It took half an hour to send a 43 min TV show, which is less than desirable.

As of yet I cannot find a single app or any way whatsoever to use Wi-Fi Direct to transfer any type of file, be it video, photo, or otherwise. This is very disappointing, especially since the GSII and GSIII can both do it using S-Beam

Funny I can't even get slow android beam speeds. It simply says transfer not support at all.

Wow. Samsung actually provided value add over stock. Shocking!

Regarding usable storage: My reviews indicate only about 4.5 Gig is available for personal data storage in an 8 gig Nex 7. In the 16 Gig, approx. 12 gigs are available. If I am WiFi only (which I am), I don't think 4.5 gigs will cut it for me in the long term. As games photos, videos and programs increase in resolution they also increase in size.

For me, in this case, a little to much is better than not enough.

I can't speak for your 8GB unit but mine had nearly 6GB usable storage (5.91ish).

Good info.! You might note that I said "my reviews": so I am glad to hear otherwise and I will verify when I get mine; however, I still feel the same. Obviously all people do not have the same needs, but, based on my experience I will stick with a 16 Gig minimum if no mSD.

I would invest in a 16GB Nexus 7, with so many new content in the play store, a 8GB would not be sufficient.

There is no standard file size or type.
It depends on the quality of the output. (High def vs standard def for vid. Lossless vs lossy compression, or no compression for audio.)
Too many variables to even guess at a number.

I like high quality content, so with 8GB I would say not very many.
I bet you could store a buttload of low quality .mp3 though.
