$99 Nexus up next?

If the supposed 'second $199 N7' has improved specs, that would be a little disrespectful to people like us who bought the 1st gen. I mean, if they release it sometime late next year be fine with it,but you don't release an improved model just a few months after the first.. So I'm pretty sure this rumor is inaccurate. Or at the very least, it won't be out for a long time.

Imagine all the rage people who bought the iPhone 5 would feel if the iPhone 6 was coming out in January lol

It's not?

The $99 N7 seems unlikely to me, but I wouldn't be surprised if the 8gb model was dropped, bringing the 16gb down to $199 to compete with the KFHD and the new Nooks. A thinner model with improved build quality would be welcome in any case.

I wouldn't expect better build quality at that price point, which is unfortunate since the Nexus suffers from poor build quality at $199.

It's rumor at this point. At $99 there would have to be a nasty catch as well. I can't see that it would be the same as the units we have now. If it was it would be a one way ticket to Asus and Google going out of business and probably BK from the rest of us revolting through legal channels for paying double when we did not have to. Sure corporations are stupid, but I can't imagine them stooping to that level of stupidity, that's just suicide from a business point of view. It would be like Target telling all it's customers that if they come back on Tuesday they can have anythign in the store for free and then wondering why they didn't make sales that month and why they were in court from the customers who were not told about that the day before, resulting in closing the doors forever.

Not really I mean if you think about it when the latest and greatest phones come out they're usually around the 199 price point. In some instances in just a few months they are discounted to 99. Pretty much the same concept I'd say.

Uh, actually, it would not be disrespectful or anything else if they came out with another $199 Nexus with better specs at all. What is being talked about here is a $99 Nexus and if it were the same as the $200 one that would be a problem, but it would not be the same at that price point. Just like any other corporation, they want profits, period. It probably cost all of $40 to make these $200 models and they are not about to sacrifice $100 profit per unit leaving only $60 profit and not with the popularity currently.
I'm usually not an early adopter at all and was going to get (now old) Kindle Fire, but read about new ones coming out and decided to wait. So I ultimately ended up with a N& and being an early adopter. Then again, what defines an early adopter anymore? With the phone and tablet market the way it is your almost forced into early adoption because they come out with a new model every two weeks! (I hate that). I adopted Win XP at about the 1 year from death mark. I was recently forced into WIN7 with my new PC and that is already dying to make room for Win8 (which I want nothing to do with because I already hate Win 7). I do my best to avoid early adoption in all things, but it's getting harder everyday.

.. What? I was referring to the same rumor, which also stated that an upgraded $199 N7 tablet would be released by like, Xmas. How would that not snub owners of a weaker version of the same device released only a few months prior? It's not really the same as a year in between Kindle Fire models.

Though, I can see them maybe dropping the 8gb and making the 16gb priced at $199. Lol I mean, that extra 8gb probably doesn't cost that much to manufacture

i was thinking about buying a nexus 7, a friend mentioned most of the apps aren't tailor made for the tablet, they're just the phone version blown up. is that true? and how is the font rendering in the browser compared to the ipad?

LOL big time at all the rumor mongering and supposing and, basically fantasies. I just bought my daughter an 8gb model for birthday or Christmas... Ahhhhh! But i got her $25 in the Play store regardless.

I put some belief in the criticism that the N7 is still too recent to supersede. Maybe, maybe, drop the 8gb version to $99 and intro a better $249 model.... But it seems too soon, and there is the Galaxy Nexus 2 to release.

Addendum

With Amazon not including a charger with the Kindle Fire HD (yes! Wtf?), I don't think the Nexus tablets are "beaten" in the market.

HAHA what?? "charges in approximately 13.5 hours from your computer via the included USB charging cable" they must be hemorrhaging money making this thing if they can't even include a wall charger.

BTW, I think you have to link the N7 to your daughter's gmail account in order to receive the $25 credit--make sure you do that before tomorrow if you haven't already!

Yes, I was just going to post the same advice. You must claim the credit (but not necessarily use it) by September 30. I think you have until June of next year to use it.

Through legal channels? LOL, you have no legal recourse to throw at them for lowering the price of a device they sell. Anyway, why would you get upset because somebody got it cheaper months and months down the line? And Google has uber billions in the bank. They could afford to lose some cash to expand their market share and sell more media on Google Play.

That's my quote, not Amazon's. But really, a tablet that requires 9W and 1800mA-2000mA to charge is NOT going to charge up fast on 400mA-500mA.

LOL why do you guys think I bought it so long before Christmas. I think I'm using her credit to get Cogs and Cut The Rope and Where's My Perry[1] on her account.

[1] See, I told you folks that WMP was going to go on sale.

A $99 Nexus? Not impossible, but there would be a catch like for example it could be a 3G / 4G version and the 99 is simply the price if you get it subsidized by a carrier, or it would be a heavily cut down version...

I had no idea why you bought it so long before Christmas. If I had known, I wouldn't have chimed in with the friendly advice. Perhaps next time, a "I was already aware of that, but thanks for the heads up anyway" would be a bit more appreciated.

If a $99 nexus came out I'd buy one. Not for me... Because I obviously have my nexus seven already. I'd buy it just because it was so cheap and to give to someone else. Lol. Anyone.
