A farewell to a Pre.

I'm also leaving my Pre for an Epic. I loved my Pre when I first got it but it's had so many problems. I can't wait to explore the massive amount of apps the Android OS has to offer compared to the Pre. *Drools*

That's why I didn't go WebOS in the first place. The app market was just too small.

The app market definitely could of taken off, but the Pre never got the traction. After finally leaving the pre for the Evo... going back to it has been a real pain. Its all I can do to bring it with me in case I need a phone.

Going back to the iPhone was also a pain. I couldn't really stand having to deal with iOS again after tasting some Eclair (and now Froyo).

I switched to the original blue theme a couple weeks ago and liked it so much it made me have second thoughts about getting an epic. Buuuut i'd still rather have a larger screen ;)

Larger screen is a HUGE plus for me. Loved the size of the EVO screen, but the Epic screen will suit me fine.

Well said. Tonight is also my last night with my Pre. I'm hoping that, in 12 months, when I'm eligible for a new phone, HP/Palm will have something to at least tempt me.
Here's hoping. There's always the possibility of a WebOS tablet...

I'm giving mine to my sister...& she better treat it right, I'll be keeping an eye on it to be sure she does.

Great post. I love my Pre. It is too bad Palm didnt have enough in the tank and some ill fated decisions along the way.

I would def still look at the pre 2 and webos 2. I stand by my thoughts that webos is by far the best implementation of many things I want in a mobile OS

I'm tempted to sway over to the Epic, but your last sentence literally sums up what I think about the Pre and what keeps me with Palm for now. I haven't had anything catastrophic happen and like you said, WebOS is by far the best implementation of so many things that I want in a mobile OS that I can't really imagine using anything else (I work in mobile and I've used Android and iOS quite a bit, so that opinion is not completely uninformed).

Oh well, Palm has until Christmas shopping season to keep me.

I'm hoping that WebOS will be back with a blockbuster phone...

When I was on T-Mobile, I always wanted the pre. The OS just seemed to work really well. But now that I am on Sprint, WebOS isn't a viable choice.

I'm eligible for an upgrade this time next summer, so HOPEFULLY I will have a tough time deciding between my next phone, either a WebOS or Android device

Oh, forgot to say, all their production problems notwithstanding, there are even a couple hardware points that Palm nailed with the Pre that most/all Android devices can't match right now.

Main one is the Touchstone. I can't imagine not having that on a phone anymore. The Powermat knockoff's are not nearly as elegant. Next is the gesture area. I thought it would be weird at first, but there's a lot of thought put into that, which I like. Plus it saves the screen from the incessant back button of iOS. Last is the feel of the slider (when it's not Oreo'ing 8^P). I just like the snap of it -- it's the perfect balance of resistance & assistance for me (not sure if the Epic will feel as good, but the Droid, for instance, feels terrible in comparison).

Like I said, Palm has a few things that keep me with them for now. If no new hardware announced by Christmas, though, hello Epic. I'm living in a 4G metro area, so I'm dying to try it out! 8^D

If they built the Pre, with WebOS the way it is now, an upgraded chipset and made it out of better materials.. I would buy it.

The problem I had with the Pre was how delicate it was. Also not having a glass screen and riddled with scratches turned me off. The software needs more juice!

Great thread. I felt exactly the same way the day I left my Pre for the EVO. I was such a devoted Palm fan (since the original Palm Pilot) but now I heart belongs to Android. Best of luck to all of you getting the Epic!
I too will be in line this morning at my Sprint store to try it out. As great as my Evo is, I think the physical keyboard is the only thing it's missing.

Welcome to the Android side of the house hope you have fun with this platform just keep an open mind and you will be good. Because the way webos and Android do things are different with plusses on both sides

I just installed UberKernel & Govnah last week, and finally started liking my Pre again. Not to mention my (and my wife's) Pre was replaced in June.

Had nothing but Palm phones since early '03. But Alas, it is now that time. Goodbye....my Pre.

I, too, am leaving my Pre this morning for the Epic. I still think that the webOS UI is the best mobile UI that I have seen.

Unfortunately, progress on the platform by Palm/HP has been frustratingly slow. I was hopeful that things would pick up after the HP acquisition, but there has still been relatively little news. Meanwhile, Android and iOS are regularly creating new buzz.

My Pre is a decent phone, once overclocked, except for the battery life. One hope is that the Epic, while not able to go days without a charge, will at least make it through a day without a full recharge. I certainly can't do that with my Pre.

I 2 am giving up my Pre 4 the Epic - I'm going 2 miss it very much, but it's time 2 move on 2 bigger & better. I will always keep it around as a back-up, but unless they (HPALM) can come up with better hardware I'm done with WobOS & loving Android. So long Pre it was really nice cuddling you on a daily basis, but now the relationship must end - SEE YA!!!!

I know that I'll miss WebOS when it's gone, but there's no way I'm waiting another 9 months to a year for a new WebOS device.

I fear HP might have completely missed the boat on this one. Based on how long it's going to take to get a device out, I'm 100% certain that either Palm didn't have a device in the development pipeline, or HP scrapped any phone that was there and started over.

Rumors say they had a phone with roughly the same specs as a Dinc slated for July, but then scrapped it because HP wanted something better.

Wow, I posted this before I went to bed last nite and I did not expect such a response. Alot of disgruntled Pre users here I guess. T-minus 2 hours until I have that beautiful Epic in my paws.
