Been with Apple for several years now but am getting fed up with some things and looking to switch back to android. Been researching for weeks but can’t find what I’m looking for. Was leaning toward the pixel 2 due to it being secure and getting updates and camera but hen read a lot of bad reviews. Looked at S8 but hen read about becoming laggy and no updates. Read some good things about the note 8 but it may be too big. What do you recommend AND can bloat crap be removed from phones? Can’t stand the bloat they put on phones. Actually one of the reasons I went to Apple

Bad reviews go to the Pixel 2 XL due to allegedly problematic screen. But the smaller Pixel 2 appears excellent in all reviews I've seen.

The Samsung Lag IMO is a misunderstood concept. Sure a lot of people say they experience it, but I use my phones a lot and there's no real troublesome lag apart from a couple of stutters here and there but rare enough to not mind it. Sure it's slower than a Pixel but that's just comparing something with a lot of features on top to something more barebones. Just like how two cars with the same engine will perform differently if one was designed as a coupe and the other as a 4 door sedan due to weight. And at the same time, more parts means more maintenance. Some of these lag they say are just slower animations too. Just a little bit of maintenance and all is well. Samsung built in a maintenance app for cache cleaning and self monitoring for rogue apps so it's not too hard.

You could also look at the V30. By all accounts it's an excellent device. Motorola also has a good history for timely updates.

Depends on what you call bloat. Some people just doesn't want apps that didn't come from Google on their phones. Samsung phones nowadays jave little bloat and you have to install their apps separately. Heck even the Samsung music player is downloaded nowadays and you have Play Music preinstalled, even if IMO the Samsung app is better.

Didn’t know Nokia was still in the game but I will search those as well. I don’t want to give up the smooth operation of an iPhone and I’m a little nervous since my last android was freeze up and was slow as molasses in January after 5-6 months of using it. I know most phones are a LOT better now but want to get the best android phone there is.

Nokia is back in the game. And, so far they are doing very well with the updates. And not as expensive as some of the others. It might be worth looking at Blackbery as well. The KeyOne seems to be a decent phone, although not great. It's still on Nougat, but what what I've seen they are getting security updates out the door fairly quickly.
