A Great Opportunity - What do I need to know to test a carrier unlocked G4? I want to use on Verizon

Re: A Great Opportunity - What do I need to know to test a carrier unlocked G4?

I bought a phone on Amazon once and it hadn't been released yet on Verizon. So it wasn't in the database. They told me to wait until it was released and then it would be in the database and could be activated. I sent it back anyway so don't know for sure..... But maybe Verizon could confirm that would work for yours....Worth a try.

If the phone is compatible with Verizon's network then you can pop in an active Verizon 4GLTE sim and it will work, regardless of whether the imei is in the database. No need to contact Verizon.

Now Verizon will not activate a device that isn't in the database, so you would need an active Verizon 4GLTE sim card.

I have a G4 international unlocked, brought it to Verizon to activate and they couldn't since it was a GSM version. They popped in my sim card and no-go. Very frustrating...dying to give this a run for the money. I hate this CDMA/GSM thing.

What model is yours I thought the international version was cdma/GSM?

It's GSM/WCDMA - fine if you're with AT&T or in Asia.

LG-H815

Is that the number you're looking for?

It seems like everyone who has an H815 has no luck getting it to work in the USA. Even if you do, I believe the LTE bands are incompatible.

The H815 is the UK model.

"...LTE bands are incompatible" is an incorrect statement. Verizon and Sprint users will have problems even registering their phones on the network, but many of the LTE bands will work with US GSM carriers.

I'll have my G4 hopefully on Tuesday and will have first hand knowledge then.

Ah yes. UK model. I stand corrected!

Cool! Hope it works! If the LTE bands are in fact compatible (AT&T uses the same bands a the big three here in Canada), I may order one, lol.

Yes, what you're saying makes sense. Although it looks like one poster on this topic has tried inserting a Verizon SIM and it did nothing. Second, how would I get a SIM? The Droid Turbo, which is my daily driver, has a smaller SIM. If I were to simply walk into a store and request to purchase an active SIM only, would they? Or could they?

For the others who mentioned the "dummy SIM" option, would it, in theory, activate the phone if I chose a prepaid service and simply purchased a cheap phone?

I was getting angry with Verizon. The customer service representative kept telling me that an unrecognizable IMEI will prevent it from operating on their network. When I asked the rep if I simply had a functional SIM that would fit, the phone should work. I've done it to older models. But they wouldn't acknowledge that. If it won't work, so be it. But don't give me false reasons as to why it won't work.

Re: A Great Opportunity - What do I need to know to test a carrier unlocked G4?

This is a long thread, but is applicable to using a non Verizon g4 on the Verizon network.

The LTE bands is a separate issue..

Pay special attention to post # 13

Thanks for finding that. My takeaway from that thread is that firing up my G4 isn't a guarantee, if I had a valid SIM.

Between LG and Verizon each saying the same thing, I'm doubtful I'll be able to activate this. When Verizon does start selling the G4, will my IMEI be invalid because it's an unlocked non-specific carrier phone? That's a big concern.

Most likely yes, but can try. That can only be answered once someone actually tries after launch. :)

It's worth a try, using a Verizon activated Sim in the carrier unlocked g4. I don't see a downside. It shouldn't break anything.

Has anyone tried an active Verizon sim yet?
