You sound surprised that the N9 is the same damn phone like the S9_ but with an s pen. Just curious is that the only thing you're disappointed in the Note 9?

Anywhoo... Some people may recommend you try a third party messaging app instead... like Textra. But if you're really wanting to stay "stock" and want your background pic, you might try downleveling your message app to the version Note 8 phones use. I'm running 4.4.30.42. You can probably find it on https://www.apkmirror.com

LMAO, what did you expect????

Did you even bother to do any research before purchasing, or do you just go out and buy the most recently released phone without looking???

How did you get the 4.4 app to install? It's not working for me. Do I need to uninstall the current messages app?

Honestly, I've never tried. I've read of people with Note 8s updating the messaging to newer versions so didn't think steps to downleveling would be any different.

If I were trying, I guess I would disable the stock app and then try to push the newer version. If that didn't work then you'd might have to use a package disabler, then try to push the newer version.

Hopefully someone with more actual knowledge on it than me can chime in.

Learn something everyday, whether it is new or not. Samsung Galaxy line of phones (S series and Note series) share a common core and design philosophy. But have differing feature sets. Makes sense to me.

While I'm not disappointed, I did miss the era of the Note having better specs than the S line. I think starting with the Note 5 and S6, they shared exact specs.

Previous models had at least a better processor then the S models.

Note 4's Snapdragon 805 vs S4's Snapdragon 801 for example.

The Note 4 was a lot more than just an S5 with a pen.

But it's all good. I don't love the phone any less.

Agreed. One of the reasons why I love the Note series more.

I don't follow Snapdragon and their processors but I wished the Note got something newer not only to make up for the price increase but to differentiate from the S series.

Why didn't we get 8GB of RAM or even a 256GB of storage, instead it was a $400 CAN option up HERE, I know it's also 512GB. LMFAO.

Really I only bought it because of Samsung's promotions which I GAVE THEM PROPS for, I got $205 for POS Galaxy Prime and IconX that I ended up keeping and loving, I could've sold it to help lower the cost.

Better memory management.
Had both S8+ and N8, and wouldn't say same.
Note 8 had 7.1.1 which was refined and never offered for Galaxy.
Oreo 8.1 on Note 9 out of the gate.
Better cooling is always welcome.
Larger battery
2GB RAM more.
Enhanced stylus
Less rounded, thin edge and more a rectangular
More time to iron out hardware issues that were found with Galaxy S series.

Same. Not same.

I find huge improvements over the S9+ ...I shifted from note 8 to S9+ then to Note 9...Note 9 is perfect in every way...

Yeah, I use the Samsung text messaging app, and the note 9 has a higher version than the note 8. Or did, I haven't looked to update my 8 of late.

And the messaging app now has the settings type features set out differently, and as yet doesn't have the feature to change the background. I do hope they put that back in.

It's taken me a bit to get used to the changes, cos I don't text all that much, but I'm sufficiently comfortable with it now.

I really like the OP's profile pic. It's a good test to ensure that my creative side is awake, cos if i can't see more than one view then i know I need to take a break, lol.

If you apply a Theme from the Samsung Themes - it will apply "color" to all of the applications, such as the Messenger app, Phone app, Calendar etc. I love the Theme I have because the former White Background of those apps changes to what ever theme you want. Love this!

Tried that. Didn't work.
