News A MediaTek modem could make or break the Pixel 10 — Google can’t screw this up

Unlike cameras which ALWAYS seem to get the most attention, even though for Me the camera is the absolute LEAST important thing on a computerized communications device, what's the absolute MOST important piece of hardware is the MODEM, whether for WIFI, or Bluetooth, or cell service! No matter what anyone likes to do, or NEEDS to do on their "phone", if you cannot get a connection wherever you are then it is an expensive, useless piece of junk! Google is more than famous for screwing things up, and yet despite their best efforts at shooting themselves in the foot they still seem to be doing OK. But as the article makes clear, if they screw this up, they will pay a very heavy price with their loyal customers. Time will tell!

"Cheap is as cheap does" - Forest...Forest Gump (well, sorta)

Years ago, MediaTek was considered a low(er) tier mfgr of electronic parts which were used in budget tablets, phones whatever, where price was the main consideration, with performance being only somewhat important due to the market segment they were aiming at...

HOWEVER, in recent years, it seems that they have been improving their manufacturing processes &QA/QC, so IF, and this a big IF, they can pull a proverbial rabbit out of their hats and make a modem that equals or exceeds the others on the market at a better price, then more power to 'em !

The REAL trick is.... can they successfully integrate it with Googly's SOC's and end up with a top performing phone that is available with great connectivity AND a great price too !

If so, they will shift the market dynamics quite a bit for both themselves & Google... if not, then the aftermath will get real ugly real fast :)
