A naive question : Oled >> LCD ?

This is question from a beginner, and my very first here !

Oled displays are they really better than LCD ones ? Can you really feel the difference ? I'd like to watch some movies on Netflix (in a dark room).

Thank you !

Arnaud, I can up your question in this forum

Are you bumping your own post? Not sure why you're referring to yourself (unless you perhaps thought you were using a different account with a different username -- which, by the way, is not allowed on this forum).

YES!!! Much better contrast range and as near as you can get to complete black.
OLED's pixels use no power when black; a lcd needs continuous black lighting so is much more inefficient.
Using a mostly black screen with a OLED will give noticeably longer battery life as well lower operating temperatures.

i agree..

OLED screens are much more pleasing to look at and can get better battery efficiency if dark themes are used.

However, they can be prone to burn-in issues over time, or pink tint in some cases.

LCD's don't have those deep blacks, but they're generally better longevity wise and have less failures.

Welcome to Android Central!

To be honest, I think they both have their benefits... I tend to not really focus much on display specifications - rather, I just focus on whether or not I like the display. :)

This is true to a point. As you increase the amount of pixels in use and screen brightness, the power consumption difference does away.

Another thing to note is OLED panels are at a much higher risk of permanent screen burn in, leaving a constant shadow on the screen. For a TV, this isn't much of a problem because the images are always moving and the pixels all get similar amounts of wear. It's more of an issue if you do a lot of gaming or otherwise have a static image on your screen for long periods of time. On phones, one of the most common types of burn in is the keyboard, due to it being used for so much communication.

It's not burn in* but wear . Organic leds have finite lifespan.
Best to keep brightness below 50% whenever possible. Rotate icons etc. White is the most damaging, red the least.
Black, no damage at all.

*A CRT phenomenon where the phosphors are literally burnt by the electron beam overheating them.

Interesting...

So someone using a dark theme on Gboard will lower the risk of screen burn than a light one?

Funnily enough, my KEYone which has an LCD has some weird kind of burn in when the screen hasn't been turned on in a while. But once I start using it, it gradually goes away so I consider it a non issue.

Dark is better. Trash the top bar icons too. Pure black unless you touch the top.
Samsung Good Lock package then install Quick Star apk. Get rid of the carrier logo with it too :)

On LCDs it's a different phenomenon that causes that effect; it's transient. It's caused by the residual charge from being on so long... something like that. Not permanent.
