In settings/accessibility go to Direct Access. In that menu select the items you want to use. For me I selected magnifier and grayscale. From any screen quickly press the home key 3 times. This will bring up a menu to choose what you want to use. I don't know for sure but would think turning on grayscale would reduce battery.
By setting up magnifier here you can also remove it from air command thus freeing up a space for something else. And of course experiment with the other selections as well.
