The onscreen keyboard has dissappered and I cannot input messages or answer email.
The telephone keyboard works fine so it still can work as a telephone but without text input I cannot use email, Whats Up, or other messaging apps

Looks like you are using Android for the first time. Sorry I can't explain what is ADB and platform-tools, even the noobs know it. Please search for it yourself. You ought to know how something works before using it.
You can download it here:
You need to turn on Developer options and USB debugging to use it (There are other cool settings in developer options, which will make your phone smoother).
You will also need to authorize USB debugging through a popup after connecting the phone to the PC with ADB.
No, I used Android back in the late 1990s but it has changed. .

Meant to say Linux I had my first Android phone when the first android phones were released.
When my wife died of COVID in 2020 my daughters wanted me to switch to iPhone. Now I am back.

Actually I was using Linux as early as the late 60s (I think) My programming history starts in 1960 on the IBM 7070 and machine language thru 13 languages till I retired in 1999
