I know that Fi runs primarily on Sprint and Tmobile, but I'm traveling to an area in the Rockies where it appears that there is Verizon coverage but no Sprint or T-mo. Will my phone be able to pick up Verizon or possibly an ATT signal?

Why not get a prepaid VZW sim and use that while you are in the Rockies and then switch back when you return home.

Verizon is not currently a part of Project Fi.

As others have said this won't work. It only uses Sprint and T-Mobile networks - not Verizon.

It will switch over to different networks beyond Sprint and T Mobile. I've had it connect to AT&T towers. Data is slower when it does, but it does work.

I looked at the Fi coverage map, and at best it appears I may get 2G coverage. Since I usually travel in areas where this is not an issue, let me ask this, even though it may be a basic question. Other than those times when I'm going to try and use wifi as much as possible, I can still make and receive calls and texts, correct?

Correct. Calls and text will work when roaming on other towers. Data also, but just slower speed. Still good enough for email and maps type stuff.

This is the perfect answer. Forward your number to the Verizon number and you won't miss a call.

I've done this in an area that only had Verizon and AT&T coverage. If Sprint and/or T-Mo have roaming agreements with Verizon, Fi will get it too. I have been on Verizon towers with Fi. That doesn't mean that it's guaranteed, but don't assume that if there are no native Sprint or T-Mo towers you won't get coverage. Instead, check the coverage map on the Fi site, and if it shows coverage, you're going to pick up some sort of signal there, probably a 1XRTT signal on Verizon.
