Absolutely hate 7.0. I will give it a few more days and configure options as best I can.

I don't fall into either of those two categories...

After a couple of days on Nougat, I can't really see the difference between Marshmallow and Nougat. Can anyone tell me what's so different about these two? (other than the obvious cosmetic differences)
I really like the enhanced features of the Always On Display. Also, double tapping on the multi-task button to switch back and forth between the previous and current app is really nice. There are a few others that I cannot think of at the moment.

I'm really liking Nougat so far. The battery life is much better and the phone is more responsive. Even the dreaded fingerprint sensor is flawless now. It really is like a new phone. Admittedly it does take a bit to get used to the new notification panel but I'll take that trade off for all the other benefits.

I tried Google messenger, and liked it for the short time I used it. I could not get pics that were sent to me to download so I went back to Verizon's message+.

Am I missing a setting somewhere?

Unsure about your settings, but you should disable or completely uninstall message+, reboot, install google messages, then try it out. I don't have any issues getting pics.....there are other apps for sms as well, but i've used google's for a while now. clean, simple ui, archives, etc. great app!

The things that annoys me about the latest Android 7.0 is the change in location of the "CLEAR ALL" function for apps. It used to be on the bottom if swiped up but, now it's at the top. Taking a bit to get used to but, I liked being able to swipe up with my left thumb, and touch with my right thumb to "clear all" apps. Also, the gradual notification sound. If it's a short sound, I don't hear it right away. Especially with the text message sound notification.

Mine is still at the bottom. Who's your carrier?

I guess this just shows how everyone is different. I absolutely love the new notification process. Especially the ability to reply, mark as read and delete either texts and emails. Sorry it's not working out for you.

Yes...the notifications in 7x is why I love it so much. :)

I just changed the setting in accessibility and I can see notifications now. I also use the Nova launcher. My 7 edge is exactly the same as it was before with better battery and faster.

Only rooting and flashing a previous ROM would let you do that (although not sure if possible with the S7 because of Knox).

Anything that is especially troubling you that we might be able to help with? In my case, other than the annoying pop-up notifications you can't disable individually anymore, I haven't really noticed any major changes other than better performance and a bit of better battery life. But then again, I do use themes, Nova as my launcher, and don't use any stock app...
The US S7/S7 Edge can be rooted but you can't load custom ROMs because they have a locked bootloader.

I doubt you can go back to MM once you upgrade.

Have you cleared your cache? Mine was choppy and battery life was looking bad right after the update, but once I did that, it was snappy and my battery actually lasts a couple hours more than before.

Hi Spook, how do you clear cache? I know how to do it on individual apps, but I'm guessing your talking about the phone itself?

I wonder how it is possible that some people report better battery life on Nougat and other people report a decrease in battery life..

Mine got worse too. Dropped from 5.5h to less than 4h screen on time. Wiped cache twice. Did all sorts of tweaks and settings changes. Use Package Disabler pro. Mainly use the same apps as before.

Most of the battery is consumed by "Android System" and "Kernel (Android OS)".

It is beyond me to explain this. :/

You should do a factory reset and make sure all of the apps you install have been updated and are compatible with Nougat. This can be time consuming, however, you will have the best possible experience and battery life when you are finished. It is a major upgrade and sometimes old software and data can remain afterwards causings apps and the OS itself to not be updated properly which can cause conflicts and issues.

Usually, those who report a good experience have done a factory data wipe and reset after updating.

Many recommend doing so after a major OS update as it tends to give a better overall experience.

I am enjoying nougat. Its look and feel reminds me of the Note 7 I had to turn in!

So I did a factory data wipe and reset - battery life got even worse afterward. I am lucky to get 4h SOT now.

Thank you anyway for trying to help me.

Any more ideas? :S

If you restored your apps and data then you have restored either corrupt files, data, settings, an app not compatible or does not work well with Nougat or a combination of these. If you did not do a restore then most likely you installed an app that is not compatible or does not play nicely with Nougat.

I would recommend doing a factory reset and then install your apps from the Play Store or Galaxy Apps shore one by one as needed.

If you once again start to have issues it will be due to one of the last apps you installed.

Don't restore any data or settings, only restore your media and documents. All your contacts and such will automatically populate from the cloud.

This method will provide you with the best battery life, performance and user experience possible.
