I just purchased a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and was wondering what formats the video player will read. The sample is MKV but when I download an MKV to the tablet it tells me it can't play the file. I've read that MP4 with H.264 would work but when I go to transfer it the device wants to convert it and it wants 6 hours to do that. So what is a good format to use that can be easily moved to the Tablet?

I would see what you get back for responses on best video formats to use then look into using 3rd party freeware/shareware on the internet to convert your stuff at a much faster rate than the device can...

Just a suggestion.

Currently I have loaded mostly mp4 videos and 1 mkv video that I was surprised to see playing since it doesn't on my GNex. I imagine avi should work quite easily since it does on most anything these days, but then again it probably comes down to the encode.
