Access data on phone with broken screen

Hi guys

I smashed my phone (screen is completely black) and bought a new one (since the repair is nearly the same price). Now I need to access my date (phone-numbers, photos, whatsapp backup etc.

- My phone is a Motorola Moto X 2nd Generation
- The phone still works fine (I can turn it on, off) but I can't see anything
- When I plug it into the Computer it shows up but the folder is empty
- USB Debugging is not enabled

I googled this question and asked for help in another forum and got some good tips none of which have worked so far.

I have now bought an OTG (don't know if that will help) and have downloaded ADB to try my luck. Can anyone give me hints what to do next?

I don't think so that it would be possible without the screen replacement.

Will you can always acsses your data from the computer the screen has nothing to do with the memory it's really wierd that the file was empty

It's empty because the screen needs to be working to unlock the device

If your computer is running windows 10 you have to specify the usb protocol as MTP otherwise it defaults to "charge only". Once you change this you should be able to get the stuff off.

Well since you need to turn on USB debugging and you have to select file transfer instead of charge when its plugged in, there isn't much you can do without the screen

I guess you didn't store anything in the cloud then?
