Accessing the US Google Play Store?!?

I did this in the past and it worked (VPN, clear play store history/cache, uninstall, log back in with US google / wallet account, etc). However, it is not working anymore. Anyone have any suggestions?

As far as I know, if you use a US sim even from another country and even if it's not functional you could access the US store.

I do not have a US sim.
