ACS Recovery (Nandroid) "Advance Restore" Options...

Hello all.....

I have a question about using the ACS "advanced recovery" option....

So I would like to install the new update on my Epic....but I have to do the "reverse" to go forward....(I think I will just go back to FROYO and move forward from there..)

I have done a Nandroid back up and was wondering if anyone would see an issue with me starting from FROYO.....adding the updates.....rooting...then using the "advance restore" options to add the information I would like to add back in?

I have not used the advanced options, so I was wondering if someone had a quick explination on what would be restored with each option?

#1- Restore Boot?
#2- Restore System?
#3- Restore Data?
#4- Restore Cache?
#5- Restore SD-EXT?

I did a quick search and did not find anything that went over these in a single post....but I have been known to miss the easiest things! :-!

If your talking about updating to EL30 and then using the advanced restore to bring back your previous setups... This is a risky option.... At the most I would restore data, and that is only after I was on EL30, rooted and had a stock Nandroid Backup made..

I've used it in the past for restoring data, but never really for anything else... If your that worried about bringing back your apps and data then using Titanium Backup or MyBackup Root and make your backups then you can restore those once your on EL30 and rooted.

I've restored data through advanced restore moving from EC05 to EI22 without issues, so you should be fine. As Paul said however "only" restore data and do it after you've updated to EL30, rooted, ect.

Well...I took your advice and did a "data only" restore, and it has EVERYTHING back on my phone (including app's, messages...etc...) PLUS showing the EL30 update! The only thing I am kinda angry at myself about was I was so excited to see if it worked....I FORGOT TO BACK UP RIGHT AFTER I DID A FREASH INSTALL AND ROOT!!!! I may just do it again so I have that "clean" start!

Also, I tried another attemt at rooting....and it worked the 2nd time. (I will follow up on a diff post I left on this issue)

The strange thing was as soon as I rebooted after the data backup, there was a message stating there was a system update!!! But I hit "install later" and it went away. It's not showing in my "Android update" so maybe the phone was expecting EI22, then saw EL30? (just my stupid guess...)

I have launched a few app's and so far so good. I will try to see if the EL30 updates stuck as well....

One odd thing I may start a new post on is I launched the clockwork mod and wanted to backup my NEW config....and I finally received the "superuser permision" prompt, but it would NOT reboot into clockwork recovery! I got the dreaded triangle!

I found out I didn't have the clockwork recovery mod last time....I had the ACH recovery so it may be looking for that mod? Not the clockwork?

Still....I am further than I was last time! Again...THANK YOU for all of your great posts!!!
