First, no I don't have mine yet... Just trying to be a good Boy Scout and be prepared -- I've never activated a phone that's been shipped to me before.

I know we can activate it through our account page and need to enter the new phone's IMEI/MEID number from the box, but what I don't know is:

1) Should the new phone be powered off or on during this process or doesn't it matter?
2) Same question but for the old phone?
3) When the old phone is no longer active, we will still be able to turn on and connect to a computer to get info from the microSD card, correct?

Any other hints or tips for a newbie in activating a new phone would be appreciated!

Dont count your chickens before they've hatched my friend!

Why wouldn't you just pull the SD and place it into the PC using an adapter?

***Please excuse any and all typos as my large thumbs cannot fit the keyboard correctly***

- Activation instructions will be included, it's simple.
- Yes your old phone will do everything accept connect to the Sprint network, you could use it as a Wifi only device if you want. All of my old phones have various uses around my house, media center remotes, DLNA receivers for music in certain rooms, etc.

Well, I'm thinking it may get here eventually. :P

I was just digging through some of the EVO 4G forums from June of 2010, so answer should be good even if Sprint decides not to ship our pre-orders for a couple of years (which it seems like what it feels like). ;-)

your old phone will do most of what it normally does except

data-no 1x/3g/4g of any sort
cell- no voice calls (other than to sprint *2) and no texting

wifi, bluetooth, gps, compass, etc will all work normally.
