Adaptive Charging Explained

Amazing how a simple thing like charging a device becomes more complicated than it's worth by the manufacturer.

I agree, I think there are easier ways for software to help extend battery life. I hope Google makes the adaptive charging MORE adaptive, with a simpler plug it in/set it in the stand and do the job approach.

Sooooo.... I did an experiment last night.
I set an alarm to go off at 5:30am and turned on Adaptive Charging. I then asked my wife to plug in the charger after 9pm (I go to bed at 8pm).
When I woke up at 3:36am I checked my phone. According to Google it should be holding at 80%. It was at 100%.
So now the question is is there a particular order that these settings have to be set, or does the alarm have to be set for M-F?
This should be very simple to activate.

Wow! I didn't know that. My alarms were usually set between 6:30-7:30 on my Pixel 2, so adaptive charging must have worked for me.

Speaking of "nature's alarm clock", my cat definitely follows the same routines as Slate (awesome name by the way!)!

Yeah , unfortunately, it might not. Honestly though, I haven't used adaptive charging at all on my phone. Whenever I'm charging it to 100%, the second it which is 100% I take it off so I don't overcharge it.

Experiment #2:
I set the alarm for 5:30 am M-F (first time it was set for just the next morning).
My wife forgot to connect the charger in so I plugged it into the phone when I got up at 3:15 am. The battery charge was down to 35%.
And..."Captain! Thar be Adaptive Charging here!
The question is what did trigger it this morning but not yesterday? Was it the battery charge level, the alarm set for multiple days vs a single time. In the words of the world's greatest detective "When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."
At least we know Adaptive Charging does work. Now to do some elimination tests to narrow down the trigger requirements.

Edit: When I finished this post I checked and now it has switched to rapid charging. So inactivity is at least one requirement to maintain Adaptive Charging. Makes sense.
Edit 2: Elimination of the January Security update. Here is a video of the changes in the update. Adaptive Charging is not among the improvements.

Oh, really? Man! I'd thought I'd had that! Haha. But you're right. Looking at the screenshot above, I definitely didn't have that! I thought the 2 series still had a battery that learned your usage over time and adapted, though?

The link that I posted in the first post lists which phones have Adaptive Charging:
"Available for the Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, and Pixel 5."
Adaptive Charging is not the same as Adaptive Battery.

Thank you for clarifying! :)

Just a quick update. I plugged my phone in at 3:30 am with the battery at 67% and alarm set for 5:30 am. Adaptive Charging was triggered.
Of course when I started using the phone it switched to "rapid charging", as it should.

Yeah, that definitely makes sense to me.
