I have a Notepro 12.2 and Tab 10.1. Will using this charger damage them? 9V compared to 5V?

No it won't damage them. It will only charge them at 5 volts.

The adaptive charger only ramps up to 9 volts when the Note 4 tells it to (or presumably any device released that supports adaptive charging).

It will be fine. The device will only charge at the rate it is capable of charging -- It won't accept any more.

You are referring to amps. Yes, a device will only draw the amount it needs, amperage wise. So you could safely charge with a 100 amp charger.... IF the voltage was the same.

And it is voltage that we are talking about here. A device doesn't have any choice in whether to accept a given voltage: it is going to get it no matter what (whatever the charger is supplying). Therefore, 9v could be a very bad thing for a device that is designed for 5 volt charging.

Fortunately, the Note 4's adaptive charger is designed to only charge at 5v unless specifically switched to 9v by a Note 4. That is the reason it is safe to use, and not because an older device will only take 5v.

And this is why I said he is fine :).. Because the quick charge the brick has won't initiate unless the hardware of the phone can take it.. And so far I believe the Note 4 is the only one that can do it.

You would be fine
