Adding another Gmail Account

Hey,


So im trying to add an additional gmail account to my phone besides the one i already have on there. I went to accounts, add account, entered my username and passwords, it goes and goes and goes, and then says

Cant establish a reliable data connection to the server.


Not sure why, being that i have service, everything else works, and my 3g is going. sooo any ideas?

hi cobaltgirl, I am dealing with the exact same issue, did you get help on this elsewhere? would love to know how to get my brand new phone to do a simple and obvious function, thanks in advance

Found this on the Google Support Forum:

"Just try signing into the YouTube app with the account you want to sync and it will automatically add it to the list of your accounts (make sure you sign in to the YouTube app, rather than the website; I tried signing in to the website only and that didn't work)."

Thanks! That seems (key word: seems, lol) to have worked. It claimed it didnt log me in, but i went to accounts and it told me to go to Settings -> accounts and sync, and then i went in and synced the gmail. hopefully everything works from there

Ragnarokx, thank you, sorry about the dual post, at the time I thought they were different things, anyway, thanks again, I wonder if this type of workaround is typical in/on android phones, if so I'm glad android central is around

Apparently it is still two separate issues, I went back to my email to see my work email, hosted by google/gmail and saw no account, went to add it and no dice, it runsz me through manual set up, I go to imap, I have imap enabled on my account, it gives me incorrect password/username, sorry to be a pain, I will search gmail support as well

So you logged into the YouTube app and your second GMail account is still not showing up?

So I did that and it showed/flashed by up top and then went away just like the other gmail account, it then allowed me to get all my contacts from there and then I saw that email flash by somewhere in an app. I went to the sprint store and asked where I saw that etc. No help, and then today after more looking I found that email set up and working in the Gmail app, so that is pretty good, the @ Mail app seems even better, but I can be fine with using the other for now, am I missing anything in one app to another? Thanks for all your help!

To add a second gmail account you need to do it on line through a browser and not through the phone app. I haven't done this but that's what I been told.

If you have already done this and this is a different issue, sorry......

I don't know if this will help any, but I'll post how I access both my phone GMail account and my separate Google Apps for Education (in this case my church, which as a 501c3 qualifies for this service) account on my Epic.

The phone account is accessed via the GMail application of the phone. The Edu account is accessed via the Email application which is a truly separate app.

Setting up the GMail account was easy in the phone settings, have never tried to add a second account there. I added the second account actually using the Email app in the Applications menu. Using the Email app gives better folder structure with simpler navigation between folders also, definitely an added benefit for folks like me that sort and keep a lot of mail.

As you can tell from the message it's a connection issue. Meaning, the 3G or 4G service is not running. If you're on 4G and are in a 3G area primarily, turn off your 4G and try again. For some reason 4G is not as reliable yet but you can get 3G almost everywhere.
