I just got an Evo and I'm trying to add my school email to the phone and it keeps telling me the server is not connecting or something. For example my school email is "johndoe@udmercy.edu" If anyone could help that would be great, thanks in advance.

Your school website/Tech Support should have the server settings for the mail server. Either POP, IMAP or Exchange. You need to make sure those are correct in your e-mail settings for your account before you can connect.

Adding School .edu email address?
Not all organizations using the .edu TLD use the same types of email servers so this question is impossible to answer. It's just as vague a question as "How do I set up my corporate email?" for the very same reason. An .edu account could be POP, it could be IMAP, it could be Exchange, it could be Google Apps, it could be Live@EDU, etc etc etc. Each of these is set up differently and even accounts of the same type still require knowing the servers, ports, etc specific to that environment.

For example my school email is "johndoe@udmercy.edu"
This, on the other hand, may help. I've Googled in the past to help out kids but you can Google just as easily as I can. Failing that, there's your .edu's help desk, as mentioned above.

I just forward my .edu email to my gmail. But I never send mail from the .edu so that works for me.

It depends on what system your school is using. Mine uses Microsoft's live.edu system, so it's all Exchange. They proved the exact server settings online (they could be vastly different than what you think).

Like Pville said, your school's tech department should have the correct settings available.

I used to forward .edu email to gmail just like Johnly suggested. It might be annoying, especially if you want to send email from the .edu address, but it works in the interim until the IT department can get you the necessary information to connect.

Hi, I just purchased my 1st smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S3 through Verizon, and I getting really frustrated at the fact that I cannot seem to put my school email that is run through gmail onto the phone. Many iPhone users have successfully been able to add the school email and I myself back in august somehow figured out how to add the email to my itouch by setting the right configurations for the incoming and outgoing servers. My school runs through IMAP and my friend who has the same phone said he played around for several weeks and somehow got it to work. My email is ******@desales.edu but the gmail app when I put the username and password of the existing account pops up the error "Couldn't sign in because username and password did not match" when I am able to use that same username and password to log on online. I even tried looking at the configuration settings on my itouch for the email and applying it but the gmail app won't even let me get pass the username and password to set up the IMAP/SMTP settings. I know theres the option to forward messages but do not see why I have to go through the inconvenience with a simple task. My IT department at my school was unable to provide answers. Is there anyone that can help?! Please.

Gmail app works only with gmail, so what you now trying to do is to login to google accunt using that email address, as such account does not exist it throws you error. Thats why OEMs usally add there own mail client to support other mail servers, Samsung has one so try it out

Btw .edu have nothing do with the problem, it's DNS and all it do is change domain to IP. It's all about server that mail is using.

Ok, I have an LG G2 and I have one Gmail account on it already, and my school uses a form of gmail (Crimson powered by google) is @crimson.ua.edu but its through gmail.. I plugged in Alabamas SMTP but it didn't work so I'm lost
