AdFree Not Working Post Root - Different Google Framework?

I installed AdFree after rooting phone, and got root permissions enabled for AdFree. But, for some bizarre reason, it does not work on this phone (i.e., ads still pop up across every app). Is there a different Google apps frameworks in play with this phone?

And, thoughts by anyone re: a workaround?

have you tried unchecking/checking symlink from data/data/hosts? After each you'll want to update the host file and reboot prior to testing.

So:
1) check symlink from data/data/host
2) Update host file
3) reboot
4) test

If that doesnt work:
1) un-check symlink from data/data/host
2) Update host file
3) reboot
4) test

Thanks for the info; I forgot to update my original post.

I had checked the symlink. That was my problem.

Once I unchecked it, updated the host file, rebooted, and tested, no further issues.
