Adoptable Storage not working correctly

Hello: I've had my Moto X Pure Edition for about a month now, and all of a sudden it's not updating my apps because they all say there is insufficient storage space to download them. I have the 16 GB model with a 32 GB pro series micro SD card formatted as adoptable storage.

When I look at Storage & USB in the Settings, it shows I've used 25.77 of 45.33 GB, but below that it's split as Internal Storage (8.96 used of 9.50) and Samsung SD Card (10.31 used of 29.33). My understanding is that when formatted as adoptable storage, apps shouldn't even see the difference between the two. But now it definitely seems like the limited internal storage is preventing my apps from updating.

You'll probably need to manually move some apps to SD. In my experience apps are still installed to internal storage even with adoptable storage turned on. Note: not all apps support moving to SD.

Thanks, but I thought the whole point of Marshmallow's adoptable storage feature is that the device basically reads the SD as part of the internal, or doesn't discern amongst the two?

That's what I thought too but it doesn't seem to work that way in practice. I think it is still a work in progress.

There's supposed to be some way to set it as internal, I'm not sure. I move mine manually and still get that error sometimes. Trying to move the app a second time works.

My Nexus 4 didn't have an SD card slot so I haven't dealt with moving apps to SD for a long time. Any app recommendations for analyzing which apps can be moved to SD and moving them? Thanks.

There's a way to swap internal and external storage if you're willing to root (External 2 Internal SD (Root)), otherwise Adoptable Storage is still half of this, half of that and still not really working. (And if the SD card goes bad, a lot more likely than internal storage going bad, you lose any apps and app data not backed up off the card.) Keep the card for data (like movies, music, etc. - all backed up, of course) and keep the apps internal. (BTW, it does take internal storage to move an app to external storage so you aren't "saving" as much space as you might expect to.)

Can I just say... I knew this would never work. If it's even supported by most Android phones, I don't believe it will work. That's why I'll always opt for 64gb internal storage no matter what (unless I can get more). Phones with 16gb of storage are just a headache if you actually use them and play games/vr/movies/music off them.

Anybody have any more insight on this? I had to send in the Moto X mentioned above for warranty service, so I basically started over with it about a week or two ago. I formatted the SD as adoptable, but now I keep getting alerts saying that my storage space is almost full and due to that being the case, the phone might not operate correctly. However, the "Storage & USB" page in the settings says I've used 8.92 of 9.61 internal and 1.50 GB of 29.33 of SD card. The total at the top says 16.81 used of 45.33 available.

Question: Is there a place in the Settings where I can check to ensure I selected adoptable storage? I'm sure I did, because the storage space listed at the top adds the two together, but I can't find where I might be able to double check.

On a more "big picture" note, I totally counted on adoptable storage being a useful feature of this phone when I bought the 16 GB, and now I feel like Android isn't doing anything about the fact that it doesn't work, and I'm stuck with a phone that is a chore to manage because it's not operating true to the promised claims. Is there a way to submit a troubleshooting ticket with Google/Android itself rather than with Motorola, who don't seem to know much about adoptable storage?

Adoptable storage has been a big fail, not just for the Moto X. Over promised and under delivered. I'm sorry for people who bought the 16gb internal model counting on adoptable storage.

One option was "Migrate Data," so I hit that and it said it would transfer stuff over and would take about five minutes. It worked and cleared up more than 3 GB on my "Internal Storage," so all is good for now. I wonder if you have to do this manually now, or maybe I hadn't initiated it with the new phone? (After finishing, it said something about your SD card is now ready...) Anyway, if I have this problem again, this will be the first thing I try.

During the original adoption process it should have asked you this as well, if you didn't migrate at that time you never really finished the process. All data (actually, read as MOST data) will now be stored on the sd card, you should not have to migrate again.
