Ads on S8+

The last couple days I've been having ads pop up all over the phone. Sometimes it's an overlay, full screen when I wake the phone up, or when I switch between apps. It's super annoying! I've deleted the last few apps that I've installed and it's still happening. I just returned from China and it started doing this when I returned to the US. I'm on a Verizon s8+.

I've added 2 photos of it happening if it helps.

Can someone tell me how I can get rid of it?

Boot into safe mode. If the ad stops, it's an app doing it and you'll have to play elimination.

The ad is from an app you installed. Delete them one by one until it is gone.

I think I found it. It's an app I installed on my last day in Vietnam, then then traveled to China for another 2 weeks. I didn't get any of these ads while in China probably because of the great firewall.

Once I got into the US, I started getting ads because of lack of the firewall. I guess that firewall was good for one thing lol

I've attached a photo of the app for reference

Glad you managed to find the culprit and thanks for the follow up! It'll be very helpful for other members with a similar issue.

I've read many reports about that app pushing ads and weird popup menus. Definitely an app you want to uninstall as soon as possible.

The way I figured it out was, when an ad is displayed full screen, I hit multitask and see the icon and name of the app. The icon looks a lot like instagram's icon but the name of the app just says advertisement. If you just search by "advertisement" in settings>app you won't find it. If you look for it by icon you easily miss it because it looks like instagram!

Excellent tip! Thanks!
