Is there any advantage buying unlocked international version over carrier version?. Are updates pushed earlier?. Which version/model to look for.

Advantages - usually quicker to update, no carrier specific bloatware
Disadvantages - no carrier specific advanced features (wifi calling, video calling, advanced messaging - if/when available through carrier) and no Samsung Pay yet

The G and I versions are pretty well compatible with U.S. GSM carriers except no UMTS 1700 for T Mobile.

I have the SM-N208. I think the settings menu style is different from carrier versions and most obvious difference here is the dual sim support which is very useful (at least for me). Both sim slots support 4G/3G but unlike other Samsung dual sim, the other slot cannot be substituted with a microSd.

MicroSD and SIM are totally different, electrically and physically. I think you're misunderstanding something.
Yes but some phones offer a micro SD card to be placed in the 2nd sim slot instead of a sim. He's not wrong :) I wish the note had that option too. I'd rather have a micro SD slot than another sim slot. But now that it's there I use my 2nd sim.
