After 2 years I've hit a Samsung Pay roadblock

I've been using Samsung Pay for two years and the only place I could never get it to work consistently is Lowes. But now I've found a roadblock that stops Samsung Pay in its tracks and I'm seeing it at more and more places. The problem is not that that Samsung Pay doesn't work, it does. The pinpad sees it as a card swipe just as it should. The problem is after the swipe when the pinpad asks me to enter the 3 digit CVV code that is normally found on the back of a credit card. AFAIK there's no such thing with Samsung Pay and, thus, I can't complete the transaction. I saw this twice recently, once at an Extra Mile gas station store.

Does anyone know of a way around this?

Open SP look at your card if will be grayed out and there is a pin listed but I do believe its 4 digits says fir cashier ,never had this issue ,how about just hitting enter and processing as credit

It IS a credit. It's not asking for a pin code, but the CVV code. The 3 digit security code that's printed on the back of the credit card.

Unfortunately, the CVV on your real card is specific to that card. The card number used by Samsung Pay is a card number generated by Samsung Pay and your bank to help avoid fraud. This number changes periodically also. I have never seen a POS machine ask for a CVV number, but I can see where that would put a hamper on using an electronic pay gadget. My wife is a banker and deals regularly with POS service and she says that she has never heard of a machine asking for the CVV code. I would suggest that the OP make sure their bank has their card set up correctly for Samsung Pay. According to the folks at my wife's bank, each service, i.e. Samsung Pay, iPay and Android Pay, are all set up differently on the bank's side. Couldn't hurt to check.

Never had this issue. Are you it's not the bank/credit card you use? That said, you should have a CVV on SP app if that is the case

Did you try to delete your card and then re-adding it? Re-adding it will go through re-verifying process and might help.

Another option then would to ask for a new card which would give you a new number.

Very sure. I've used this card hundreds of times via Samsung Pay.

This has happened to me at a Chevron gas station inside the store. I mentioned it in another SP thread here. People said to just put in the 4 digit number that SP provides. I havent tried it yet. But this is a real thing and I dont know why it's happening.

Yes, when they ask for the 3 digit code, give them these 4 digits. It's counter-intuitive, but it works.

That actually makes since because its a virtual number being used anyway and SP actually says this number is for the cashier

Sorry to butt in here, but what is the 4-digit code you say that Samsung Pay gives you? I've never had it give me a code for either a debit or a credit purchase. If I'm doing a debit, the POS terminal takes my regular debit card PIN. If I'm doing a credit, I just have to sign the POS screen if asked. I'm curious, where and when is Samsung Pay supposed to give you these 4 digits?

I'll try that next time. I know that the CVV on American Express is 4 digits. We're so conditioned to think it's 3 digits for Visa and MC that I never thought of using those 4.

I have never gotten it to work at Lowe's, but have never ran into your problem, I am glad to hear that Lowe's doesn't work for others. Well not glad, just relieved that I'm not the only one

Anytime I try at Lowes and it fails the cashier reminds me that they are so antiquated no other pay system works, so it's not just SP.

The few times I tried Samsung Pay, the code it was asking for was not the 3 digit code on the back of the card and the 4 numbers provided in Samsung Pay never worked. it wanted my 4 digit passcode like what I would use at the ATM.

I've been exclusively using SP for over a month now (~50 transactions) and have only run into this issue once at a restaurant. I first tried the 4 digit number from SP, but that didn't work. Luckily I remembered the 3 digit CCV from the actual card and that worked right away.

I use SP at Lowes a lot. most times it takes 3 tries, even on my G3 watch. Once in a while it goes with the first swipe.
