After side-loading OTA, can't update Android P anymore!?

I side-loaded Android P earlier this year, using adb, but now can't update to later versions because the OS doesn't see updates when I check for them.

What can I do to fix this? It's very frustrating, because many of the current apps are not compatible with my old version of Android P anymore and I'm getting error messages every time I launch an app.

I've got to ask because you didn't say: What's your status on the P beta program page? Is your device listed there, and does the button below it read "Opt out"?

https://www.google.com/android/beta

If it doesn't say "opt out," then you'll need to officially "opt in" on that page.

If your device is acknowledged as enrolled, though, then something glitched, and you may need to flash the full system image or sideload the OTA to DP2. There are download links on the page below:

However, your best bet for guaranteeing OTAs to later DPs might be to opt out of the beta program (if yer enrolled), take the downgrade back to 8.1, and then re-join the beta program to get DP2.

You might also want to contact Google through the Help options on your phone.

Yeah, what update? Still on the first one.
Given they installed it "earlier this year" they're meaning the first Developer Preview.

Also note that you will not get the monthly security updates while in these betas.

From the beta page:

You can expect to receive between three and six updates over the course of the program. You will receive an update when opting in, opting out, while in the program, and a final update to the stable public release upon graduation from program. Note: You will not receive monthly security updates while on a beta build.

If you manually flashed Android P on your device by downloading the image from developer.android.com, you won’t receive updates automatically unless that device is also opted-in to the Android Beta Program on this page.
Read the first paragraph first. There probably won't be any updates until the stable public release.
