Android Central Question

I am really regretting getting this phone, it will accept no useful software as it has such small memory.

So, reading "https://forums.androidcentral.com/ambassador-guides-tips-how-tos/315804-guide-android-storage-memory-how-deal-insufficient-storage-warnings.html" I decided that, because I am running Android 6.0, I could buy a 32GB SD card, plug it in, set it for use as internal (unified) memory, and Bob's yer uncle.

Of course, it didn't work. I definitely ticked to use that card as internal memory but, although it shows
Device storage 1.81GB Total used of 30.80GB (LOOKS GOOD)
it still refuses to install apps claiming it has insufficient memory.

It says:
Internal storage 1.77 GB used of 2.03GB
Samsung SD card 46.35MB used of 28.76GB
Default storage shows a tick against the Samsung SD card.

So, has anyone managed to solve this issue?

Welcome to Android Central! When you inserted the card, did it ask you if you wanted to format it as Internal Storage, or did it just ask you if you wanted to use the card as the default storage location? Those are two different things. In order for the card to expand Internal Storage, the phone has to support Adoptable Storage and actually formats the card differently (formatting a card as Internal Storage encrypts it so that it can't be used in any other phone). But if the phone only gave you the option to make the card the default storage location, it's still only acting as Portable Storage.

Adoptable Storage requires Marshmallow and higher, but not all manufacturers decided to implement it.
